Job Description:

The Implementation Systems Engineer designs and implements complex radio systems that satisfy specific customer requirements. Systems involve Harris and vendor equipment, and typically include RF Base Station & Repeater equipment, microwave links, IP networks, wireless data, RF antenna subsystems, 911 dispatch and/or other custom subsystems.

The candidate will work with Harris Windows & UNIX based platforms as well as various security platforms used within the Harris network. The candidate will work closely with a team of engineers to deploy and commission high availability Land Mobile radio systems. The candidate must have a good working knowledge of IP networking, virtual machine (VMWARE), windows and UNIX platforms. The candidate should have recent experience working with Land Mobile radio or other RF based engineering.

The successful candidate will work with senior engineers to resolve identified problems, follow defined ISO processes, identify and suggest alternative methods. The candidate will work with other senior engineers to provide contracted deliverables to customers, including but not limited to drawings, network designs and IP plans, and perform RF mapping functions as examples.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be a customer interface on technical issues and provide the end user with needed operational documentation

  • Design, implementing, and support of complex IP-Based radio system networks

  • Providing feedback on Windows, UNIX and IA products to product engineering

  • Maintain documentation & configuration revision control

  • Documenting lessons learned

The Implementation Systems Engineer drives improvement in the program implementation process by actively participating in every phase of the design, staging, configuration and implementation of Harris Land Mobile Radio systems, looking for new methods to simplify, improve and streamline our program operations. They will be involved in technical planning, system integration, functional verification, performance validation, and process improvement vs cost/risk analysis.

The candidate will participate in discussions with customers, consultants, vendors and other Harris personnel as necessary to advance projects.

Approximately 50% time will be spent in Harris facilities and verification and 50% field travel.

Qualifications:

  • BSEE, BSCE or similar technical degree
  • 10 years technical experience in Land Mobile Radio, telecommunications or related field

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • The Implementation Systems Engineer must have a working knowledge of RF/LMR system design.

  • Experience in design of IP networks, RF antenna systems, as well as ISO process familiarization is desired.
