The Strategy and Transformation department within the Office of the President works across the Agency to align, enable and support the development and implementation of our strategy. As we head into a new strategic plan period, our goal is to transform Save the Children into an International organization of the future. The Senior Specialist, Strategy & Insights will work with the Senior Director, Strategy & Communication to inspire and support the development, monitoring and effective implementation of our strategic plan. You will be an innovative thinker and futurist who can scan the external environment and monitor our sector for trends and opportunities that challenge convention. You will be adept at evaluating large amounts of information, identifying trends and explaining why they are important, and will closely collaborate with teams to investigate underlying and new drivers in our landscape and seek to understand the implications to our organization and the world at large. You will also sometimes serve as a business partner and resource to divisions, supporting external scanning, planning, goal setting, reporting and special projects as needed.

What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Support development and delivery of agency strategy (65%)

  • Support the design and implementation of the 2022-24 strategic planning process as the in-house futurist for a large, complex NGO

  • Constantly scan our sector and beyond for trends, new points of view, perspectives, opportunities and threats. Help our organization be more forward-thinking in our everyday work and more future-facing in our plans

  • Engage and convene stakeholders, lead focus group discussions on key levers and drivers, identifying themes and distilling feedback to inform processes and decisions

  • Leverage live and static survey tools to generate input and glean insights from a large remote workforce

  • Lead regular benchmarking, peer and market research activities, summarizing performance against trends in revenue and expense for various channels

  • Distill inputs (research, survey data, brainstorming feedback, etc) into themes, making connections to inform our strategic direction and monitor its implementation

  • Effectively synthesize and summarize outputs (e.g. feedback, SWOT work, mapping work to external trends/ breakthroughs, SCA/I global priorities) for various audiences

  • Help ensure that all strategy resources are curated, organized and accessible on our shared platforms (e.g. MS team and Savenet)

Manage annual planning and reporting processes (20%)

  • Work with the Senior Director for Strategy & Communications to support annual planning across the organization, leveraging tools, platforms and systems to drive efficiency, encourage sharing and minimize waste.

  • Partner with finance to ensure plans are drafted and revised in coordination with budget processes and that most important work is resourced

  • Support divisions as they articulate objectives to deliver strategy and annual steers priorities and ensuring alignment across the agency

  • Support agency dashboard reporting processes -help identify performance measures, collect division baselines, and monthly and quarterly data and insights

  • Synthesize and summarize progress against agency key performance indicators at appropriate intervals for various audiences

  • Continuously improve and streamline reporting tools and requirements to increase understanding of how we are doing, while reducing stress and complexity

  • Ensure all documents are checked for accuracy and shared appropriately

Special projects (15%)

  • Contribute to the implementation of the Office of the President's strategic objectives as required and assigned by the Senior Director and AVP for Strategy & Transformation

  • Support special projects, as needed, including stakeholder engagement, research or data analysis and strategic opportunity reviews.

  • Plug into enterprise risk work as appropriate

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent related experience

  • Proven experience supporting strategy development or strategic planning in a complex environment

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, to analyze data and complex information, to derive actionable insights, simplify process and offer creative, practical solutions

  • Proven leadership, facilitation, listening, influencing and negotiation skills,

  • Demonstrated track record in dealing with people at all levels with credibility, tact and diplomacy

  • Proven ability to work independently to lead and participate in projects as a collaborative, thoughtful and value-add team player and problem solver

  • Professionally proficient verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Demonstrated story-telling ability, as well as a confident and succinct communication style for audiences at all levels of the organization,

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, with proven success in managing multiple and competing priorities

  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office suite - especially MS Word, PPT, Teams and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with survey tools and remote facilitation platforms (e.g. Menti, Mural, Poll Everywhere etc)
