Lead product development projects for US Frozen Meals, Global Pizza & Snacking and Global Vegetable Based Meal Solution Categories to deliver innovative and competitive products in time with agreed quality to deliver against business objectives and delight our consumers.
Develop new innovative meal products, taking from concept to commercialization by utilizing a high level of culinary understanding, knowledge of ingredient functionality and processing technologies to deliver new products grounded in consumer understanding.
Execute innovation projects via strong project management and technical leadership skills, including stakeholder management, communication & presentation skills. The candidate will work in team situations to meet project timelines and business needs.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
Project Management & Leadership:
Lead cross-functional technical team (Culinary, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Technical Packaging, Regulatory, Nutrition, Sensory, etc.) to deliver project objectives on time.
Partner with commercial team members across relevant business functions including Marketing, Consumer Research, Finance and Operations to deliver on project objectives to support the business strategy.
Promote a team atmosphere and mentor and engage team members to develop multifaceted and highly motivated teams.
Develop robust timelines, scenarios and effectively forecast/plan project resources and budget.
Communicate and handle risks and opportunities, driving problem-solving activities as needed.
Incorporate knowledge of food manufacturing practices, food safety and compliance (GMP, HACCP, FDA, USDA), Nestle processes and all safety and compliance requirements during project execution, including appropriate documentation (experimental reports, trials, technical plan, ingredient and product specifications etc.)
Lead technical and business partners through effective communication and mentorship.
Protect intellectual assets and discovery in collaboration with legal team.
Product Development & Technology Development:
Formulate and develop new and innovative culinary products in the portfolio of supported Categories.
Bring to bear solid product development skills and creativity to assess new technology/ingredients.
Exhibit innovation in discovery, evaluation of new ingredients & technologies that can have significant impact on new product, improved products or processes, and /or capital avoidance.
Drive Nutrition Health and Wellness in product design in alignment with Nestle NHW principles.
Apply understanding of analytical testing, statistics, and sensory and consumer testing methodologies in the development of new products
Connect and advise ingredient suppliers and equipment vendors, and propose new materials/processes/equipment that deliver new benefits and in line with project objectives.
Plan and coordinate pilot plant and manufacturing plant trials, scaling up from lab to pilot plant to final industrial scale.
Network and collaborate with specialists within Nestle R&D & Technical & Production. Collaborate with other categories and businesses to use relevant science and technology.
Understand category trends, consumer insights, and keep abreast of competitive activities both commercial and technical.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):
Minimum B.S., preferred being Masters in Science in Food Science, Baking/Cereal Science, Agriculture, Chemistry, or Culinary-related Science Technology.
A prerequisite of a minimum of 5 years of Food Industry Experience in a Product Development/Research Development Role. Proven track record of strong project management.
Excellent Project Management and Team Leadership Skills with excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills of project status.
Proven ability to lead multiple projects in a cross-functional environment, while delivering significant business results.
Extensive knowledge of culinary formulations and processes with knowledge, proficiency, and ability to physically produce bench top samples.
Excellent organizational skills.
A proactive independent worker and able to complete projects with minimal direction yet an open, flexible and dedicated teammate able to work well in a team environment.
Self-motivated with the ability to initiate and execute projects that include collaborating with operations, engineering, suppliers and product development.
Ability to Travel 10-30%.
