The Opportunity

Abbott Rapid Diagnostics Division is seeking candidates for the position of Procurement Senior Specialist for Plastic components and commodities in USA region, reporting to the Global Category Manager of Plastics. This role will be expected to develop and lead a Category Procurement Strategy across the US region plastics spend for Abbott's Rapid Diagnostics business, working closely with Abbott's Global Procurement team to drive synergies.

What You'll Work On

  • Work closely with key stakeholders in both Corporate and Division organizations to develop effective cost reduction strategies and implementation plans.

  • Be accountable for building and nurturing stakeholder relationships by serving as a business partner, helping identify critical business requirements and providing sourcing and procurement services.

  • Leveraging professional expertise and relationships to contribute to strategy and drive business results.

  • Leads the development of functional strategy and process improvement.

  • Leads change and innovation through collaboration with colleagues and subject matter experts.

  • Leverage market and supplier knowledge to drive lower total cost of ownership.

  • Represent Abbott strategically in the industry and community.

  • Develop and mentor peers on the plastic & resin category subject matter and sourcing strategies.

  • Proactively identifies areas of opportunity for new business opportunities, process improvement, and cost efficiencies.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Mastery of category spend to support supply base optimization.

  • Develop and lead category strategies in collaboration with senior leadership and execute to completion that have impact upon global business.

  • Anticipates internal/external business challenges and drives proactive countermeasures.

  • Lead project teams to achieve milestones and objectives.

  • Lead project teams responsible for selection of category strategy.

  • Recruit, mentor, train and develop talent necessary for success.

  • Research and evaluate business requirements and suppliers.

  • Drive value, savings, and risk mitigation for categories.

  • Collaborates with other functions internally and externally.

  • Develop and execute competitive bidding processes (e.g. RFPs, RFIs, RFQs).

  • Lead in-person fact-based negotiations with senior executives from suppliers based on an internally approved plan and goals.

  • Demonstrate the ability to translate potential contractual risk into desired outcomes.

  • Prepare analytical reports and dashboards to influence stakeholders/customers without authority.

  • Solves complex problems and proposes practical solutions.

  • Perform value analysis on costs, supplier quotes, and continuous improvement projects.

  • Create and manage project plans, identify resources to support projects, drive multiple projects through complex sourcing processes and ensure end results meet requirements.

  • Support the development and completion of contracts, CDAs, statement of work (SOW) and standard operating procedure (SOP).

Position Accountability / Scope

  • Responsible for spend from $50MM-$100MM, Over 500 suppliers across a global organization of 5 Business Units.

  • Develop comprehensive category knowledge, recognized as the SME for a direct category.

  • Strong working knowledge of operations.

  • Identifies, develops and executes key operations initiatives focused on efficiencies, cost savings and customer service.

  • Lead the development of contracts, statement of works and standard operating procedures aligning with Procurement policies and division requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree preferably in Supply Chain, Business, or Technical Area (e.g. engineering).

  • 4-6 years of procurement, supply chain or operations experience preferably in the Plastics, Injection/Blow/Over Molding, Thermoforming, and/or tooling categories.

  • Experience in a highly regulated matrix environment, preferably in the Healthcare Industry.

  • Experience dealing with Privacy data requirements and contracting (PII, HIPAA, PCI, PHI).

  • Skilled negotiator with knowledge of contract structures and language.

  • Change manager with strong analytical, prioritization, and influential skills.

  • Mastery of excel including proficiency analyzing and manipulating data (e.g. pivot tables, nested functions, visualization tools, etc).

  • Proficient communication skills; verbal and written for recommendations, data summaries and presentations.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Strong initiative, work ethic and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to network through organization and travel up to 15%.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Relevant Certifications: Six Sigma, ISM (CPM/CPSM), or APICS (CPIM/CSCP)

  • Experience managing projects, communication, and negotiations on a global scale

  • Experience with Lean, JIT, and continuous improvement manufacturing concepts
