Job Summary

The Senior Building Engineer will create and execute checklists for preventative maintenance for the Head office on a weekly and monthly basis. This position will lead inspections, repairs, and maintenance for all Lidl HQ equipment and will present new solutions to various issues as needed. The Senior Building Engineer will report to the Facilities Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee, monitor, and inspect scheduled projects and maintenance as well as special projects performed by external vendors

  • Execute needed repairs as determined by the Facilities Manager

  • Perform electrical and plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation

  • Perform painting, carpentry, and masonry work and assemble furniture

  • Plan, create, and execute the weekly and monthly maintenance schedule

  • Provide safety instructions to all on-site external contractors

  • Source specific trades as needed

  • Direct, manage, and lead one or more contractors


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong understanding, and ability to repair, install, and maintain HVAC, electrical systems, building mechanical systems, plumbing fundamentals, and equipment

  • Understanding of blueprints and basic flooring specifications

  • Ability to work hand and power tools, and perform carpentry, painting, and plastering

  • Excellent time management and communication skills as well as attention to detail

  • Ability to identify maintenance opportunities, create solutions, and make recommendations

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

  • Associate's degree or Trade-related degree required
  • 3 5 years of experience in related field required

  • Electrical Engineering Certification preferred

  • Plumbing Certification preferred

  • HVAC Certification preferred

Physical Job Requirements

  • This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated) less than half the time

  • The person in this position may need to move about the store(s), distribution center(s), warehouse(s), and/or corporate office(s) more than half the time

  • The person in this role must be able to position him/herself (ex: kneel, crawl, crouch down) to fulfill the essential functions of the role less than half the time

  • The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) 40 75 lbs.

  • This position operates machinery and/or equipment that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists (ex: typing, sweeping, slicing deli meat, operating the Point of Sale system, etc.) all of the time

  • This position requires the ability to spend less than half the time viewing computer monitors

  • This position is exposed to outdoor weather conditions less than half the time

  • This position is exposed to non-climate controlled workspace(s) less than half the time

  • The person in this position must be able to identify and distinguish between colors all of the time

Travel Requirements

  • This position commutes between regional offices/distribution centers less than 10% of the time

VIEW JOBS 1/10/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-10T00:00 RESPONSIBILITIES Utilizes advanced skills to perform complex preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment and grounds. Working under limited supervision, monitors building system operations and performance. Utilizes several trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating and cooling. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives related to building operations and work safety. Inspects building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by client. Oversees and inspects the work performed by outside contractors. Contracted work includes landscaping, snow removal, remodeling, HVAC, plumbers, and cleaning. Performs assigned repairs, emergency and preventive maintenance. Completes maintenance and repair records as required. Reviews assigned work orders. Estimates time and materials needed to complete repair. Orders necessary materials and supplies to complete all tasks. Maintains an energy management program to ensure measures are taken to operate all systems in the most efficient manner to keep operating costs at a minimum. Maintains the building lighting system, including element and ballast repairs or replacements. Performs welding, carpentry, furniture assembly and locksmith tasks as needed. Responds quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or training to coworkers. May coordinate work and assign tasks. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
