We are a community of engineers seeking an individual with experience in the delivery of a wide range of capital and expense projects. Candidate should have a practical understanding of scope development and design, construction, commissioning and qualification. Excellent leadership skills needed to manage a large capital project independently or a series of smaller projects within a portfolio in the manufacturing, laboratory and infrastructure lines of business.

Experience in managing an integrated project team to deliver critical assets on time and within a prescribed budget is required. The candidate must have proficient oral and written communication skills along with the ability to deliver project status and funding presentations in a concise, effective and organized manner. Other capabilities should include outstanding decision-making skills and strengths in change management and team alignment.

Individual shall have the ability to collaborate well in a team environment that is sensitive to the needs of the business. They should strive to develop good relationships with cross-functional areas consisting of all aspects of the business including Operations, Quality, Technology, Maintenance, and Safety.

Applicant should demonstrate project management excellence to lead the development of project execution plans and to verify that project scopes are an effective business solution. Other capabilities include providing management of design, development and implementation of suitable procurement strategies, understanding and management of project cost budgeting and control, schedule development and control, change management, risk management planning, monitoring and control, construction management, communications management, information distribution and reporting, commissioning, qualification, contract administration and project close-out.

This position may require the candidate to be available to travel 25% of their time in order to support projects within the America's and internationally at the various plant sites.

Qualifications

Education:

  • BS Engineering

Required:

  • 5+ years' experience, including project execution

Preferred:

  • Experience in Lean Project Delivery Methodologies (i.e. target value design, off-site fabrication, pull planning scheduling tools) considered a plus.

Reporting to a Technology Director or Associate Director in Global Engineering Solutions, the Senior Specialist will be part of a high performing team, responsible for implementation of projects that support a growing portfolio of Large Molecule work in GES' North East and South East Region.. The Senior Specialist participates in project activities ranging from business case development through the implementation of the business solution using the Capital Management stage gate process with varying degrees of responsibility. The Senior Specialist will exhibit sound leadership and exemplary collaboration, communication, and vendor management skills; and is expected to develop and maintain advanced technical knowledge in their respective area(s) of expertise. Key Responsibilities: * Leads or supports project design efforts, providing innovative solutions that meet business objective * Collaborates with a team in the evaluation of alternative solutions and the development of project scope * Preliminary designs, including P&ID development and HAZOP facilitation * Ensures that deliverables conform to Merck standards and practices, and are technically sound * Provides technical guidance during project implementation, assures viability of technology in proposed configuration * Team leader for assigned areas of facilities * Liaises with other technical functions to ensure successful technology transfers of new and in-line products * Collaborates with contractors, suppliers and other team members in the execution of the work Percent of travel: >50% for projects assignments outside of primary location. Travel and flexibility in project assignment location is required; assignments may require short term travel assignments.
