About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T&D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 15 million residents via SCE's 5 million customer accounts.
We are looking to add a Senior Specialist of Compatible Units (CU) to the Engineering Operational Services department of T&D. This team plays a significant role in creating, revising and maintaining compatible units within T&D.
The Senior Specialist will provide technical and engineering support of the Compatible Units process, specifically for Distribution, Substation and Transmission construction projects, including design, development and validation of CUs, technical maintenance troubleshooting/problem solving, and training related to the CU process. The position will have some reporting responsibilities, including tracking and communicating CU status to appropriate stakeholders, and will also be responsible for monitoring processes and making enhancement recommendations.
This work will be done in collaboration with other groups across SCE and T&D such as Standards Engineering, Design Support, Distribution Planning, Construction Methods, IT, Plant Accounting, Field Accounting, Street Light Program Management, Supply Chain, among others.
This position will report directly to the Manager of Publications/Compatible Units reporting into the Engineering Operational Services department within T&D's Asset Management Strategy and Engineering (AMS&E) Organization.
Create, Edit, Maintain & Validate Compatible Units (CUs):
Use SAP, SharePoint, Design Manager, and Microsoft Office Suite - along with knowledge of the Planning and Construction processes - to create, edit, maintain and validate Compatible Units.
Use SAP and CU Master Data to run transactions for data queries, input, extraction and reporting
Use SharePoint to manage and collaborate with stakeholders
Familiarity with T&D Standards, Specifications and other design/construction/maintenance/operations manuals
Familiarity with SAP IPSEC (Initiate, Plan, Schedule, Execute and Close) Work Order Process Model
Use IT BMC Remedy Notification Process to help resolve SAP/DM issues
Develop CU-related communications for stakeholders
CU Testing & Analysis:
Perform detailed end-point testing of compatibility, troubleshooting, and database updating for CU creation and maintenance using SAP, SharePoint, Design Manager and Microsoft Office.
Provide technical analyses and develop recommendations.
Consult with IT and Design Support to remedy issues related to creating, editing, maintaining and validating Compatible Units.
Manage, design, develop, improve and maintain the Compatible Units Request System (CURS) as business needs dictate.
Manage the data within CURS and SAP to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Report CU-related status updates using the CURS and SAP systems.
Provide Compatible Unit (CU) training, consulting and updates to clients and stakeholders, including addressing issues, processes and maintenance of those processes.
Provide CU-related transactional reporting to stakeholders through SAP and the Compatible Unit Request System.
Provide CU subject matter expertise to Distribution, Substation and Transmission disciplines to identify potential impacts to Standards and/or Compatible Units.
Implement specialized technical projects related to the development and maintenance of CUs within SAP Master Data.
Negotiate with management to obtain resources and finalize implementation schedules on CU initiatives.
This position will have the authority to make technical decisions on the development and interaction of data entry fields in SAP and CURS with major impacts to the overall operation of the design and costing elements.
Decisions related to Distribution, Substation and Transmission construction standards as they relate to the development of CU bill of materials and assemblies with moderate to major impact to project outcomes.
Decisions regarding material name fields and detail fields within SAP with major impacts to job cost and appropriate construction of end products in the field (bill of materials).
Technical recommendations regarding CU process and methodology with major impact to systems (SAP, Design Manager, Auto Desk Utility Design, Click Schedule) and planning/design processes within all disciplines of T&D design and construction activities.
Possess Five (5) or more years of experience in a technical role, which could include but is not limited to the following: master data, design standards, engineering, work management, planning, or equivalent experience with data management.
One (1) year or more of experience leading or managing projects, programs, or equivalent
Working knowledge of SAP
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a Business, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or related discipline
Six Sigma Certification
Three (3) years or more experience leading or managing projects, programs, or equivalent
Experience developing and implementing project and change management plans
Experience in Quality Management theory and techniques
Knowledge of Compatible Units processes
General knowledge of Material and Supply Chain processes
Knowledge of construction methodology and the materials associated with Distribution, Substation or Transmission design and construction practices as they relate to established construction standards
Knowledge of Substation equipment, systems and operations, and associated electrical requirements
Thorough understanding of T&D stakeholders and T&D Business Processes and Tools
Knowledge in the design and maintenance of SAP-related terminology that translates to CU processes
Working knowledge of SAP Master Data and SharePoint
Experience in reviewing and writing technical documents, policies and procedures
Experience developing and delivering presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences
Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate, and effectively communicate with clients and negotiate successful outcomes
Proficiency with the following software tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
