Department Summary:

The N111 mission is to provide thought leadership and data driven analysis to enable the Department of the Air Force and the US Space Force (USSF) to design, develop, acquire, and integrate future warfighting space Force Designs, including space System-of-Systems architectures and space programs, into warfighting operations in time to outpace accelerating threats.

Roles and Responsibilities:

As a Space-focused Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) Engineer, you will serve as a subject matter expert and MITRE technical leader to the U.S. Space Force. You will support the life cycle of Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) sensors and programs from sustainment of existing ground- and space-based sensors to assisting in designing future force designs, sensors, networks, and command and control. You will apply your systems engineering knowledge to help the USSF "go fast" and deliver more resilient space capabilities. The position requires technical expertise in a relevant field and a willingness to apply that expertise to new architecture designs. Your expertise will be crucial to the success of the Space Systems Command (SSC) and the Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC).

Job Description:

  • Provide insight into the ground architecture governing Missile Warning communications

  • Assist in the definition of nodal requirements as pertains to resilient NC3 and related strategic communications

  • Performing enterprise modeling and simulation of both the baseline and future ground architectures, missile warning systems, and/or campaign-level simulation

  • Engineer future missile warning architectures using past experience, focused study, and analysis

  • Evaluate architecture performance against agreed upon figures of merit

  • Engineer Space sensing solutions

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the Missile Warning Program Offices, assisting in their acquisition and sustainment activities for current and future programs of record

  • Analyze operational data to provide anomaly resolution to Missile Warning Program Offices

  • Recommend solutions to acquisition requirements through focused analysis and study

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degreen Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Ability to possess/maintain a DoD Top-Secret Clearance

  • Understanding of USSF organizations, space operations, and space systems

  • Understanding of the National Military Command System (NMCS)

  • Demonstrated expertise in NC3, Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA), and/or Ground Data Networking (GDN)

  • Understanding of Missile Warning (MW) or Missile Defense missions from sensors (radars and Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR)) to correlation centers (e.g., CMSFB/N2C2, OAFB, endurable units) and Forward Users

  • Experience with ITW/AA and Space Domain Awareness (SDA) sensors, e.g., UEWR, PARCS, Cobra Dane, and OPIR systems (preferred)

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience

  • Experience in Space Command and Control

  • Experience working within the NMCS to include understanding of ITW/AA and national conferencing

  • Understanding of current/planned systems and how they process the data/messages along kill chains (UEWRs, SAGE, FORGE, CPS, CCIC2S, MARS, PDS-M, TES, AME, etc.)

  • Understanding of missile types and evolving threats, how to model them and fly them

  • Details of the infrastructure and message handling, survivable and non-survivable channels, message content, priorities, and protocols

  • Understanding of various processing nodes along that kill chain (OBAC, MCS/SMCS, S2E2, etc.)

  • Understanding of NUDET processing

  • Understanding of nuclear effects and related phenomenon

  • Systems Engineering experience

  • TS/SCI Clearance

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$111,000 - $138,500 - $166,000 Annual
