This is an opportunity to work as an automation specialist for the leader in Online Backup. You will work with the Carbonite team on a variety of products and technologies creating automation solutions and reducing the cost of testing.


Specific Objectives and

Responsibilities:

Your First Six Months:

  • Learn the team's testing standards tools, and current processes

  • Execute manual and automated tests and communicate results frequently

  • Write automated tests for web applications

  • Design, develop and write automated test code from scratch.

  • Offer new suggestions/designs which support our continuous integration test efforts.

  • Use your own initiative to help us increase velocity and overall product quality.

Six to Twelve Months and Beyond:

  • Be a relentless advocate for quality in the Carbonite platform

  • Participate in scrum teams and deliver high quality software

  • Improve the QA automation of every product you work on

Key Challenges to Overcome:

The ideal candidate will be flexible in work assignments and able to learn new technology quickly. Team members will have opportunities to work on multiple parts of the Carbonite platform, so the ability to adapt is crucial.

  • Highly autonomous and able to independently identify high value projects and drive them to completion

  • Demonstrated leadership capability in cross-functional team environments

  • High degree of comfort with complex technical environments

  • Having and being able to articulate/defend an informed opinion on important topics

Skills & Experience:

  • 5 years of experience API testing or Selenium automation

  • 5 years of experience designing automation solutions

  • 5 years with Ruby, Python or similar scripting language

  • Experience with client UI automation and CLI driven automation

  • Experience in customer service, technical support or other customer facing roles is a plus

  • Experience with backup software highly desired

  • Experience with Windows, OSX and Linux a plus

The position requires an engineer with extensive software automation development experience who is familiar with TDD (Test Driven Development) in an Agile development environment. Successful candidates will be experienced in designing and developing automation for a continuous integration environment. The essential responsibilities are to conduct thorough product testing using automation tools and techniques and ensure agreed upon quality standards are maintained. This position will focus on performance, scalability and interoperability testing of our products. Specific Responsibilities: * Participate in all phases of our agile software development life cycle, including developing test strategies, test plans, test cases, and automation. * Analyze test cases and functional specifications to determine best approach for automating scripts. * Ensure all hardware and software products meet the highest quality possible by following industry recognized Q/A methodologies and best practices. QUALIFICATIONS * Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering or other technical field. * Automation expertise with one or more scripting languages (e.g. Python, Perl, Java, Bash, etc.). * Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle, testing methodologies, QA terminology and processes. * Experience with Linux and Windows environments. * Basic knowledge of relational databases such as Mysql, Oracle, and MS SQL. * Experience with bug tracking tools such as Jira, Rally or Bugzilla. * Excellent interpersonal, communication skills. * Detail oriented, analytical, methodical and creative thinker with passion for quality. PREFERRED SKILLS * Python expertise. * Storage testing experience. * Experience with continuous integration frameworks (Jenkins/Hudson). * Specific experience with performance, scalability or interoperability testing of a storage or backup appliance product. * Familiarity with backup and recovery software solutions. * Experience with Agile SCRUM based software development and test. * Virtualization experience (VMWare, Hyper-V). * Basic system administration skills and hardware experience.
