Senior Software Engineer, Touch Experience

Tableau Seattle , WA 98113

Posted 2 months ago

The Touch Experience Team is passionate about helping people see and understand their data on any device at any time. We are a part of the Tableau Mobile organization, but we go wherever we're needed. In the past year, we've developed features within Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, and Tableau Mobile; all in the service of improving the experience for our mobile customers!

We are explorers. We cross team, language, application, and code boundaries. We often find ourselves in unfamiliar territory, but that doesn't stop us! We build our own features, and we also help other teams across the company understand the importance of mobile use cases and occasionally assist with "mobilizing" their features.

We are data-driven. We use data to discover opportunities for improving the mobile experience and to measure the impact of our work on customers. We use Tableau every day to see and understand our data.

We are a "combined engineering" team. We believe in great code quality, and to that end, we test our own code thoroughly through unit, integration, end-to-end, and hands-on testing. When something breaks, we ask ourselves why and we fix the system that allowed the break to happen.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead for other team members in designing and implementing features in Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, and/or Tableau Mobile

  • Work closely with Program Managers and UX Designers to refine feature requirements, often across team boundaries

  • Develop automated tests (unit, integration, end-to-end) and analyzing test failures to find product and test defects

  • Analyze product telemetry data to understand how customers use our product, where they experience problems, measure the impact of our work, and make recommendations for what we should do next

  • Provide technical oversight on one or more feature areas

  • Independently drive issues forward with little guidance

  • Actively mentor other team members and learn from them to help the team continuously improve

  • Recruiting: Tableau hires company builders and, in this role, you will be asked to be on the constant lookout for the best talent to bring onboard to help us continue to build one of the best companies in the world

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven leader- leading technical groups of ICs

  • Mentoring junior team members

  • leading technical design decisions

  • Strong development and design skills in one or more of the following languages: C++, C#, Java, TypeScript, Python

  • Familiarity with popular IDEs such as Xcode, Android Studio, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, IntelliJ IDEA

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality software to customers

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred (but not required):

  • Experience with mobile application development

  • Experience with data analytics / data science

  • Familiarity with common application frameworks such as React, React Native, Angular, or QT

Basic Requirements

  • 5-10 years of professional development experience in a team environment

  • Education: BS in Computer Science or related field
