Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products in our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data - structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We build the Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Integration pillars of Microsoft Fabric.

The Synapse Data Warehousing team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work on the Distributed Query Processor that powers both the Data Warehouse and Lakehouse workloads in Microsoft Fabric.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years software engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java

• OR equivalent experience.

• 1+ years of experience developing comprehensive system designs and architecture plans to meet business requirements.

• 1+ years of experience implementation of system designs, leveraging multithreading and/or asynchronous coding to optimize performance and scalability.

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience

• 2+ years experience architecting and building highly available distributed systems at scale.

• 2+ years experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

• 1+ years of experience successfully collaborating with cross functional teams.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

As a Senior Software Engineer you will

• Lead development of features from the front, driving the development lifecycle for ambitious features from prototype/inception all the way to widespread customer adoption.

• Generate software specifications, proof-of-concepts, and prototype solutions given high level feature requirements.

• Work closely with team members to unblock each other and share learnings and knowledge.

• Use data and telemetry to improve feature work and propose feature improvements to existing products.
