About the role

The Technology Department is the backbone of SmartNews - they handle everything including frontend and backend engineering, design, product, infrastructure, advertising, AI, safety, and observability. We are responsible for delivering experiences that help SmartNews live up to its name and enhance the lives of our users. Through our dedicated product teams, we ensure that our offerings reach customers seamlessly across iOS, Android, and web platforms.

Here's what you'll do

• Work on the cutting edge of product development, UX, and AI while leveraging world class infrastructure, ranking, and content
• Improve, transform, and grow the news experience for millions of people around the world in line with our mission. You will also be expected to rapidly iterate and learn in a fast-paced, collaborative, and international culture.

• Update, improve, transform, and deliver the SmartNews experience on iOS, Android, and the Web
• Balance an opinionated, high-speed, and rapid-iteration mindset with the responsibility of meeting the needs of millions of users and internal teams
• Learn new skills as needed to deliver the best possible experience on different platforms

Requirements

Minimum qualifications

• iOS and/or Android front-end product development experience
• Web (JS/TS) 
• Demonstrated experience in high speed, rapid-prototyping environments
• Personal perspective about what makes products great while also valuing feedback and discussion from customers and teammates
• Comfortable navigating high degrees of ambiguity
• Must be eligible to work in the US

Nice to have experience

• Experience building products that rely on AI, ML, ranking, and/or LLM prompt
• Japanese language skills
• Experience working in an international and multilingual environment
