Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack) - Climate Change

First Street uses transparent, peer-reviewed methodologies to calculate the past, present, and future climate risk for every property in the United States. The data we create is made available in bulk format, API and through our Risk Factor product (riskfactor.com) for citizens, industry, and government.

Team & Role Overview:

The Senior Software Engineer (Front End) will be responsible for developing and implementing new user-facing features and translating UI/UX designs into code. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain internal tools and platforms, and ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs while applying best practices and automation to improve performance and scalability.

• GitHub Actions is our Continuous Deployment/Integration service

• AWS as our cloud provider

• Kubernetes as our orchestrator

• Sentry + New Relic for instrumentation

This is a full-time hybrid Senior Software Engineer (Front End) role located in Seattle, WA, with some flexibility for remote work.

What you'll do:

• Build, architect and maintain our web products using JavaScript. Our core framework of choice is Next JS v14

• Stylized components using CSS with emphasize on the Tailwind framework

• Integrate web components with a CMS system

• Write tests and integrate APIs using GraphQL

• Work with others to create the best products

What you'll need:

• 5+ years of experience in Front End Development and proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript

• Experience with React.js or other front-end frameworks such as Angular, Vue.js, or Ember.js

• Experience in implementing responsive design, accessibility, and internationalization

• Experience with front-end build tools, such as Webpack, Parcel, or Grunt, and version control, such as Git or SVN

• Experience with performance optimization and monitoring tools such as Lighthouse or WebPageTest

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams

What will make you stand out:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field

• A strong passion for climate science

• Experience with GIS and mapping technologies is a plus
