Senior Software Engineer, Front End - Contract

Santa Clara, CA Hybrid

The Commerce team is the backbone of Chegg - supporting every business line and functional organization at the company.

We are seeking a passionate, results-oriented engineer to solve our next generation challenges and help define our technical strategy. We have a team culture that encourages innovation and expects developers and management alike to take a high level of ownership for the product vision, technical architecture, and project delivery.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop applications and components using React and TypeScript

• Have a strong eye for the operational aspects of the platform such as deployment, performance tuning and monitoring

• Lead and participate in critical, technical, and product discussions with leaders across our engineering, product and business teams

• Key player in delivering high-visibility pricing and packaging initiatives

• Ownership of the entirety of your features from design to deployment

• Work as an escalation point to troubleshoot any production issues

• Keep technical debt low by reinforcing our Engineering culture of code reviews, solid test coverage, and documentation

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of industry experience building high quality, highly performant, resilient and secure presentation layers for high traffic sites

• Technical leadership in building and maintaining scalable production applications built with JavaScript/Typescript, NodeJS, NextJS, React and Redux

• Experience with TDD (Test driven development) to build unit testing and robust regression test suite

• Strong experience in implementing complex Web UIs that leverage RESTful and/or GraphQL based APIs.

• Experience debugging across the entire frontend stack.

• Active interest not only in application code but also maintainable and scalable software architectures.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills. Must be a team player and work well in a team environment.

Preferred:

• Experience working in large scale e-commerce retailers

• Flexibility; able to quickly pivot based on business priorities

• Experience building internal tools
