Cloudability Portland , OR 97201

Posted 3 months ago

Cloudability's customers love us because we save them huge amounts on their cloud costs. While helping folks save money is rewarding, it's our good fortune as Software Engineers that it also involves a whole host of exciting technical challenges. We get to love what we build and love how we build it.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Engineering Team. This team is responsible for the analytics infrastructure and platform that powers the rest of the company and application. You'll be building distributed systems in Java, working with petabytes of data, and cultivating the thoughtful and caring culture that distinguishes our Engineering Team.

Cloudability is committed to embracing and optimizing the diverse talent of applicants, so rather than a list of requirements for candidates to meet, we ask you to answer the following questions in lieu of a generic cover letter. There are no right or wrong answers- we are looking to learn the unique experience and perspectives that make you, you!

    * * * * * * *
  • Some of the technologies you'll be using include: cloud vendors including AWS, GCP, Azure, and their hosted services like RDS, SQS, Lambda, and GKE; NoSQL/distributed such as DynamoDB and Redis; Hadoop and other "Big Data" platforms; RESTful API design; and established Java and Golang codebases. Which of these, if any, do you have experience in, and what is the extent of that experience? Which are you most excited to learn and why?
  • We're frequently pushing technical boundaries, or at least the outer limits of our knowledge. Tell us about a difficult technical challenge you've faced, how you overcame it, and what you learned from it.
  • We believe everyone has plenty to both teach and learn, so some of our educational rituals include lunch-and-learns, book clubs, and communities of practice. What topic, technical or not, would you be excited to teach the engineering team about?

We provide competitive market pay, with a comprehensive benefit package that includes:

  • Company-paid Medical, Dental and Vision insurance (Disability and Life insurance included)
  • 401(k) + Student Loan Repayment Program
  • Wellness + Commuter Benefits (company-paid parking)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Paid holidays including Boxing Day
  • Dog friendly office + weekly yoga + coffee (it's really good)
