Senior Software Engineer

Our SDLC is growing and looking for an additional senior engineer! The SDLC team is facilitating a smoother approach to building, operating, deploying, and maintaining applications at Northwestern Mutual. We're focused on the needs of the engineer and their developer experience.

As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and rolling out AI SaaS products across our company. Your expertise in AI tooling and your ability to evangelize AI usage and best practices will drive innovation and enhance our overall operations. You'll work with the rest of the team to promote simplification, standardization, and automation across our engineering experience at Northwestern Mutual.

What you'll get to do:

• You will evaluate and assess SaaS AI offerings, identifying the most suitable solutions for our organization's needs.

• You will conduct experiments and perform proof-of-concepts with AI tooling to validate their effectiveness and potential benefits.

• Development teams will collaborate with you to identify common problems and pain points that can be addressed using AI technology.

• You will additionally work with our existing SDLC team members to create and maintain our Golden Path templates/applications that our engineers use to rapidly spin up new projects.

• You will build automated processes to enable large scale transformation of our code bases.

• You will provide feedback and guidance to engineering and non-technical partners on implementing common solutions that span the enterprise.

What we're looking for:

• 3-5 years of relevant work experience working in software development with one or more of the following languages:

• JavaScript / Python

• You have experience levering AI tooling for software development

• Deep understanding of CI/CD principles and develops standard methodologies

• Experience developing and maintaining Java based microservices

• Foundation knowledge of AWS services and patterns

• Passion for operational precision, problem solving, and ownership in accomplishing results.

• Nice to have: experience with open source / inner source, working at enterprise scale
