Senior Software Architect

Position Overview

Leads, defines and owns the vision for complex, enterprise technical solutions with a cloud-first approach. Ensures IT capabilities are designed, built and deployed using technology best practices while ensuring cost effectiveness in delivery and total cost of ownership. Develops and owns technology roadmaps with emphasis on driving out complexity and ensuring the company can scale efficiently and effectively as it grows. Works with the various IT leaders and associates to define technology architectures to meet the business needs.

Responsibilities

• Defines vision for technical solutions.

• Facilitates a technology approach to requested new systems or enhancements that optimize RGA's use of technology while minimizing total cost of ownership.

• Keep abreast of industry trends, technology advancements and product/vendor direction, and plays a lead role in developing the skills and knowledge of other technical resources within RGA.

• Active participant in RGA's technology leadership group.

• Act as the visionary and strategist for the solution vision.

• Seeks continuous performance improvement in technology solutions and ensures security of information.

• Work with IT leadership to define overall recruiting needs and expertise in solution area, professional development needs of technical staff.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

• Master's degree and/or LOMA certification

• 15+ years of development experience including automation

• 10+ years of development experience in insurance, reinsurance or financial services

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required:

• Proficiency in a variety of modern programming languages

• Proficiency in a variety of modern automation tools and frameworks

• Proficiency with containerization

• Proficiency with relational/NoSQL

• Experience with AWS, GCP or other cloud provider

• Experience with load testing

• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies

• Demonstrated ability to lead small teams or projects

• Advanced ability to solve complex problems, drawing upon creativity, experience, and multiple sources of information

• Advanced communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex or difficult information

• JavaScript/Java/Groovy/Go/C#/.Net/Python

The general pay range for this position is $145K - $200K per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan.
