About the Team
SWIB's Technology & Data Division is a highly valued partner to our investment teams and a critical contributor to SWIB's continued growth and success. With approximately 75 employees, the division comprises (a) technology, including business systems analysts, design & development, infrastructure, and information security and governance teams; (b) data, including data science, investment data, investment information architecture, data engineering, and reporting; (c) business integration, change, and coordination; and (d) project management.
As a top asset owner, our technology and data systems address the entire breadth of investments. Our mission-critical technology and data are essential to deliver internally managed equity, fixed income, and hedge funds strategies, and to oversee external managers investing in both private and publicly traded assets. The team also runs the systems to operate and protect our organization. A few of our current key systems include SimCorp, eFront, Charles River, Snowflake, Markit, and FactSet.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Site Reliability Engineer to oversee the build and transformation of SWIB's cloud native technology stack. This role will service in a critical capacity to ensure all aspect of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) are built from the ground up with modern tools and techniques. This will include all aspects of the SDLC across software, data and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial services, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to manage platforms that require continuity on a 24x6 basis effectively.
This role will serve as a senior though leader within the technology organization, helping to drive change and transformation across all teams.
The Senior Site Reliability Engineer will initially report to the Chief Technology Officer and will partner with cloud-native application development teams with direct business alignment - empowering them to deliver quality software at high velocity, rapidly receive actionable feedback, and cultivating an environment of continuous experimentation. Additionally, the SRE will create reusable components and workflows that deliver superior engineering experience.
Essential activities:
Partner with the application development teams to create CICD workflows, processes and automations. These workflows will support software, data and infrastructure engineering CICD pipelines for build and deployment purposes.
Function as subject matter expert in the areas of delivering and operating reliable, performant, robust, and secure applications.
Work with the development teams to design, document, create and maintain highly available systems.
Design, implement, and manage centralized monitoring solutions that provide expedient actionable feedback to the development teams.
Partner with the application development and data science teams to create flows, processes, automation, and tooling.
Create an environment of continuous innovation and learning.
Contribute to the evolution of our architecture (cloud-focused) to increase its flexibility and ease of use.
Follow technology trends/tools and recommend improvements to our technology when appropriate.
Share experience, knowledge, and ideas to the teams to improve processes and productivity.
Provide tier 2 and 3 escalations for related issues and questions.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of support processes, incidents, and resolutions.
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the SRE function remains cutting-edge and effective.

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related area of study
5+ years experience building and running CICD infrastructure in the cloud (Gitlab preferred)
8+ years of development experience (Java, Python, preferred)
4+ years of experience designing, developing, and operating applications in the cloud (AWS preferred)
4+ years of experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred)
Background in implementing and delivering complex application architectures, including distributed computing and event based architecture
Experience implementing and operating container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, EKS, Elastic Container Service (ECS)
Deep understanding of information security concepts
Experience implementing and operating monitoring tools such as Sentry, Prometheus, and DataDog
Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
Working experience with agile methodologies
Experience with cloud-performant microservices and event driven architectures is a plus
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Pursuant to our Hybrid Remote Work Policy, all staff have the flexibility to work remotely, but are required to have a weekly presence in our offices, the frequency of which is dependent on their distance from office. Staff are not required to reside locally; however, we offer relocation reimbursement to the Dane County area per our policy.
