As part of the Product Guidance and Insights (PGI) team, the Senior Sensory Scientist provides strong leadership and collaboration with cross-functional teams to recommend and execute appropriate product and packaging consumer and sensory learning plans from optimization to confirmatory testing, inclusive of building/leveraging foundational product knowledge, understanding consumer behavior and the competitive landscape and protecting product quality. The ideal candidate will have a passion for deeply understanding consumers and applying sensory design principles to deliver the best consumer experience possible. This role is in support of Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW), a joint venture between General Mills and Nestle.


  • Influence and lead as the product design subject matter expert on the cross functional business team

  • Independently lead technically complex projects through appropriate product and packaging consumer and sensory learning plans from optimization to confirmatory testing, inclusive of building foundational product knowledge, protecting product quality, and enhancing consumer understanding

  • Facilitate consumer interactions to grow consumer empathy

  • Champion the consumer product voice on business teams

  • Collaborate with global team members on global initiatives for the platform

  • Translate data to insights through synthesis of qualitative consumer learning and interpretation of statistical analyses of quantitative testing

  • Synthesize and communicate key findings in a relevant and easy to understand manner and guide business teams to next steps in the product development process

  • Technical coach on sensory and consumer first principles and methods

  • Influence the business through strong business acumen and technical expertise

  • 10-20% Travel

  • M.S. or PhD degree in Sensory Science, Food Science, Psychology, Consumer Science or related field

  • 3 years of related experience

  • Strong sensory science technical skills, including a fundamental understanding of human perception and psychophysics

  • Competence in independently planning and executing sensory and/or consumer research

  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, and influence skills

  • Experimentation mindset

  • Proven business partnering skills

  • Effective facilitation skills to lead competitive reviews, objective team tastings, etc.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Consumer interviewing skills

  • Ability to independently manage resources and leverage existing data to effectively lead and influence multiple projects

  • Demonstrated understanding of applied statistical analysis, including design of experiments and multivariate analysis techniques.

  • Ability to apply knowledge quickly to solve a variety of technically complex questions

This role is a part of DMI's Enterprise Analytics and Data Science Team – the central analytics group tasked with solving high-impact business challenges for the Enterprise and standing up cutting-edge analytical capabilities to be shared across Wells Fargo's analytic community. We are looking for a senior data scientist to join our team and help us solve challenging and interesting business problems through rigorous data analysis, predictive modeling, and design of complex analytic systems. In this highly technical role, you will support Enterprise Personalization Program. This initiative is focused on using ML/AI algorithms to develop personalized customer experience and marketing programs. As part of the core Personalization Data Science team, you will collaborate with other data scientists to generate innovative ideas, create hypotheses, design quantitative analyses and experiments, build predictive models using ML techniques, and generate business insight. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: * Conduct exploratory data analysis, mine data (e.g., clustering), and prepare modeling datasets from multiple data sources. Build, validate, and implement predictive models using machine learning algorithms (e.g., Random Forests, GBM, neural networks, SVM, Na ve Bayes Classifier), as well as traditional statistical modeling techniques (e.g., time series forecasting, linear and logistic regression). * Conduct statistical analyses, design in-market experiments, respond to ad-hoc requests from business partners to identify/quantify opportunities or address specific questions. * Present model results and analytic findings, lead discussions, provide insight and actionable recommendations to business partners to support data driven and evidence based decision-making. * Work with complex databases, conduct research to identify data issues, propose solutions to improve data integrity; perform other database-related analyses and projects as requested; collaborate with data engineers to help optimize data retrieval processes to support ML algorithm automation. * Utilize emerging analytic and programming techniques to explore internal and external unstructured and semi-structured data; recommend how these additional data sources can be used to enhance existing models and provide additional insight.
