Position Summary

Duke Energy is looking for a Senior Operational Security Specialist to join the Enterprise Protective Services (EPS). This individual will be a Senior level field investigator engaged in traditional corporate security investigations as well as the collection of intelligence to identify threats to Duke Energy's people, assets, and ability to generate power. This individual will be required to closely collaborate with law enforcement and intelligence agencies, public and private critical infrastructure entities, and analyst and management of EPS's Threat Management team.

Responsibilities

  • Executes field investigations as directed by EPS Operational Security Management, in compliance with established standards and policies

  • Develops and maintains regional business area and law enforcement relationships

  • Efficiently documents investigative case work and briefs EPS Operational Security Management on status of security issues

  • Participates in regional strategic planning and coordination of the security function aligned with the organization's overall business objectives.

  • Supports the implementation of policies, procedures, standards, training and methods for identifying and protecting intellectual property assets, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, product tampering, espionage, sabotage, or loss.

  • Participates in and if assigned leads, security improvement programs across business units, service organizations and regional geographies.

  • Participates in major incidents, including major storm recovery efforts, labor actions, and national security events

  • Serves on intra and inter-corporate committees and working groups.

Working Conditions

  • This position sits in Asheville, NC

  • Up to 20% travel

  • Assigned fleet vehicle for on demand response

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with five (5) years of experience with a major corporation and/or law enforcement, intelligence or private sector security organization, OR nine (9) years of prior work experience in lieu of a degree

  • Ability to obtain/sustain Government Sponsored / Regulatory required security clearance and access rights to secured space

  • Superior written and oral communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of experience with a major corporation and/or law enforcement, intelligence or private sector security organization

  • Seven (7) years work experience in the security or a related field

  • Ability to professionally interact with, and present to, all levels of internal and external personnel

  • Capable of initiating and leading efforts that have enterprise level impact

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Strategic in nature with tactical abilities

  • Excellent collaborator

  • Flexible

  • Experience planning and managing multiple operational periods of a security/emergency response/event

  • Experience developing and managing a physical security program
