The mission of the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) is to protect and preserve the state's agriculture, environment, and natural resources with the vision of a prosperous economy, diverse agricultural opportunities, clean air, clean water, and healthy families.

DANR's Office of Water is seeking an exceptionally detail-oriented and personable Secretary for full-time work in our fast paced division. This position has the exciting role of being the first line of contact with our customers as we work to fulfill the department's mission. We count on our secretaries to keep the office running smoothly and efficiently, and we currently need a new person to take on the challenge.

Duties may include:

  • making travel arrangements;
  • answer phone calls to help our customers obtain the information they are seeking;
  • be the contact for Fleet & Travel regarding vehicle maintenance and repairs;
  • processing invoices and payments;
  • process payments through the Petroleum Release Compensation Fund;
  • compiling Water Management board packets.

Knowledge of:

  • modern office equipment, practices, and procedures;
  • computer systems and applications, such as Windows 10 and Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.

Skill to:

  • provide excellent customer service to the citizens of the state and to our staff;
  • public notice department actions and track any public comments we receive.

Ability to:

  • communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • establish and implement procedures for filing and data management;
  • handle multiple projects at one time and effectively manage your time;
  • work effectively with a team of engineers, scientists, and administrative staff to protect South Dakota's waters. You will be expected to routinely communicate and coordinate with our technical staff, other agencies, and the public; therefore, good communication skills are essential.
