Agios has one approved oncology precision medicine and multiple first-in-class investigational therapies in clinical and/or preclinical development.

Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist to join our growing Informatics team. The Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist will be responsible for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), single-cell RNAseq, Drug Discovery and Translational genomic data analysis, interpretation, and reporting. This individual will provide Bioinformatics and Genomics support from study design to data analysis and communication of results to various project teams. The candidate is expected to drive projects by translating Bioinformatics analysis results into decisions in experimental steps and program directions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the champion and owner of genomic studies and data interpretations in Agios project teams.

  • Be a key contributor to the identification of novel cancer targets and patient selection strategies, for both Discovery and Translation stages of Agios programs.

  • Performing NGS and single-cell RNAseq study design, data processing and analysis, building analysis pipelines, and setting up databases and web portals for result retrieval and visual/graphic display of Agios internal and external published genomic studies.

  • Analyzing various screening data: cell line and in vivo, shRNA/CRISPR, and drug screenings, including combination studies.

  • Conducting scientific presentations for internal/external audiences.

  • Supervise external CRO analysts.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Biology, Statistics, or a related field, with at least 5 years of working experience in Drug Discovery and/or Translational setting, preferably in Oncology and/or Immunology with publication records.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate Bioinformatics analysis results into new Biological insights, experimental verification proposals, and program decisions.

  • Experienced, and proficient with, processing and analysis of next-generation

sequencing (NGS) and microarray platforms (expression, methylation, and SNP arrays).

  • Familiar with TCGA, cell line and in vivo shRNA/CRISPR screening data structure and result interpretation.

  • Experienced with drug screening data analysis and combination synergy predictions.

  • Strong hands-on programing skills are essential: especially R/Bioconductor and/or Python, Unix & cluster computing programming and pipeline development.

  • Hands-on experience on data visualization tools (Plotly, R-Shiny, Dash, Spotfire, etc).

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills. Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a small team with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working experience in Translational Science and handling of patient genomic data is preferred.

  • Experience and/or training in Immunology is preferred.

Harnessing advanced technology, Foundation Medicine is developing clinical laboratory tests that will broadly capture the most relevant tumor genomic and other molecular information in a single test, and connect it with relevant scientific and medical knowledge to help oncologists determine the right treatment for each patient. The Biomedical Informatics Scientist I will make essential contributions as both an individual contributor and as a part of a team in support of Foundation Medicine's medical reporting process in carrying out literature research, scientific analysis, and scientific writing. Regular, systematic review of scientific and medical sources will inform the creation of a high-quality, personalized diagnostic report for each patient. Close consultation with Medical and Clinical Research teams will facilitate the creation of report content that is concise, informative, and physician-focused. Primary Responsibilities And Essential Duties: * Identify, interpret, synthesize and succinctly summarize literature and other sources relevant to Foundation Medicine's comprehensive cancer genomic test. * Generate new clinically-focused content and/or guidelines based on review of scientific literature, existing guidelines and other sources. * Collaborate with internal/external scientists and physicians to review, refine, and extend existing medical content. * Contribute to the development and maintenance of Foundation Medicine's clinical oncology knowledgebase. * Provide reporting-related support to external teams, including Foundation Medicine clients. * Lead/Contribute to additional projects, both within Biomedical Informatics and between departments, in support of broader Biomedical Informatics and/or Foundation Medicine goals. * Deliver on tight deadlines. Education And Required Experience: * Ph.D., M.D., M.S., or equivalent with strong background in cancer biology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, or molecular biology. Postdoctoral or other work experience strongly preferred. * Experience in disease genetics and/or clinical oncology preferred. * Deep understanding of genetic and biochemical pathways. * Demonstrated interest in disease genetics and/or clinical oncology and a deep understanding of genetic and biochemical pathways. * Superior verbal and written communication skills. * Work experience involving scientific and/or medical communications preferred. Desired Skills And Experience: * Demonstrated ability to rapidly distill clear, complete, and succinct summaries from complex and potentially contradictory primary literature sources. * Ability to perform careful, detail-oriented work under deadline pressure. * Familiarity with current topics in cancer genome biology and targeted therapeutics a plus. * Applicants should be prepared to provide writing samples.
