We currently have opportunities in our Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group, working for AstraZeneca's Oncology R&D unit. We are based in Cambridge UK, and Boston US, and are looking for talented, experienced scientists to join our team, at the Boston site.


DMPK Modelling & Simulation (M&S) scientists occupy high profile, visible roles within Oncology R&D. We are looking for a senior individual who has a passion for PKPD modelling and DMPK science, applied to Cancer biology, with the experience of working in both discovery and development.

As the Modelling & Simulation Scientist you will provide the projects with expert modelling input into exploring PK/PD/Efficacy in pre-clinical models, in order to iteratively build an understanding of the effects on target and biological pathway to predict human dose and schedules to test in the clinic. You will also have a broad knowledge and provide overall functional input into project teams.

As the Senior Scientist/Assoc Principal/Principal Scientist DMPK Modelling & Simulation, you will contribute to Oncology Projects by:

  • Act as a DMPK M&S functional leader for Oncology projects from discovery through development to life cycle management.

  • Possesses specialist knowledge in the DMPK area and is seen as a source of reference. Recognized as an expert in own field and works on difficult drug project and unusually scientific complex problems and provides solutions that are highly innovative. May lead projects, be responsible for training and developing others. Contributes to business development and will influence strategic direction.

  • To play a leading role in the department ensuring that state of the art M&S science is applied broadly and consistently across drug discovery and development to support compound design and project progression.

  • Candidate would act as a mentor to junior staff within DMPK and M&S as well as outside DMPK for scientific and career development aspects.

  • Individual would lead or serve on global teams and work streams related to M&S sciences.

Essential Requirements:

  • Candidate would have a Ph. D. or equivalent in relevant scientific discipline, pharmacology, PK/PD, or chemical engineering with several years of relevant experience in drug discovery and development.

  • The individual should experience in DMPK M&S with several years of experience in Oncology drug discovery and development.

  • Extensive experience of drug discovery and development projects including experience as core team member and good understanding of other disciplines

  • The person should have an emerging international reputation within his/her scientific discipline and should be routinely publishing and presenting in external fora.

VIEW JOBS 5/5/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-08-03T00:00 Responsibilities Job Description: We are seeking a highly motivated and creative PhD level hematopoietic stem cell biologist to head up our hemoglobinopathies cell and gene therapy research group and contribute to the development of next generation therapies for sickle cell disease and other benign hematological disorders. The successful candidate will provide scientific leadership and play a pivotal role in advancing our gene editing programs in collaboration with Sangamo Biotherapeutics (ex vivo, non-viral gene editing of patient HSC for autologous stem cell therapy) as well as contribute to the strategic direction of the Bioverativ research and development portfolio. The candidate will be responsible for the scientific leadership of Bioverativ preclinical research work, and is expected to effectively work within cross-functional teams in a matrix environment, within Bioverativ and Sangamo, to drive programs forward. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of hematopoietic stem cell biology and gene editing/genomics, including analytical methodologies, and has demonstrated experience in drug discovery research. Responsibilities: * Lead the hemoglobinopathies cell and gene therapy research group (up to 4 scientists/associates), including scientific mentorship, experimental guidance, study prioritization and people management/career development * Represent research on the joint Bioverativ/Sangamo cell and gene therapy hemoglobinopathies R&D teams * Contribute to overall strategic direction and capability build for Bioverativ R&D in gene therapy, as well as assessments of business development opportunities * Contribute to a collaborative team culture by developing relationships with research and development colleagues within Bioverativ and Sangamo * Establish and oversee external collaborations, including ongoing Sponsored Research Agreements * Serve as a key scientific subject matter expert and maintain a working knowledge of current experimental techniques and literature in the field of hemoglobinopathies, hematopoietic stem cell biology and gene editing * Share and present scientific result and strategic recommendations to group members, multi-disciplinary research teams, and when, appropriate at external meetings or conferences * Author study reports, regulatory documents and scientific manuscripts * Work well in a matrixed, fast-paced environment Qualifications: The ideal candidate: * possesses research experience and technical skills in hemoglobinopathies disease research, hematopoietic stem cell biology and gene editing/genomics, including a strong publication and presentation record in notable scientific forums * has experience in in vitro hematopoietic stem cell expansion, transfection, transduction and genome editing and in vivo cell xenotransplantation, including multi-color flow cytometry * is familiar and proficient with gene editing techniques and assay development and validation, including miSeq, scRNA-Seq and 10X platform technologies; transcriptome analysis experience is a plus * possesses a strong working knowledge of the drug discovery process and can effectively operate on cross-functional drug discovery research and clinical teams; experience working with CMC and process development groups in a plus * has a proven track record of strong managerial experience, including people management, talent planning, retention and career mentorship * keeps up-to-date on relevant literature and applies knowledge to the strategic direction of Bioverativ research * effectively communicates and collaborates in a multi-disciplinary team environment * is comfortable with changing direction and taking risks * can work independently and proactively; is a self-starter and results-driven Education: * PhD in Pharmacology, Biology or related biological science with 12+ years of relevant post-doctoral and industry experience Sanofi US Services, Inc. and its U.S. affiliates are Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employers committed to a culturally diverse workforce.
