As part of the Translational Sciences Department, the Genomics Group in the Sanofi Genzyme R&D Center seeks a highly motivated computational biologist to work in a dynamic and cross-functional team supporting genomics and translational research and therapeutic product development. Major responsibilities include:
Provide data analysis and functional interpretation using a variety of molecular profiling data, including RNA and DNA sequencing, GWAS analysis and network biology.
Interact with research scientists on biomarker discovery, mechanism of action, and disease biology at every stage of the project, from experimental design to data analysis to hypothesis generation for downstream validations.
Drive the generation and testing of hypothesis leading to new biological insights.
Decipher and interpret disease biology from genomics data working within a team of biologists specialized in genomics, molecular biology and cellular biology.
Communicate analytical results with internal project collaborators through both presentations and one-on-one interactions.
Ph.D. degree in biological sciences, bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, or a related field plus 1 to 3 years of experience in analyzing 'omics data, such as RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq, GWAS, or protein profiling
Excellent written & oral communication skills and people skills
Proficient statistical programming skills in R/Bioconductor and familiarity with a scripting language such as Python
Working knowledge in Linux/UNIX, high-performance computing (HPC) and shell scripting
Fundamental understanding of biological concepts and strong interest in acquiring domain knowledge in areas such as immune-mediated diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and rare genetic diseases
Working knowledge in network biology or pathway analysis and ability to develop and benchmark predictive algorithms to help generate testable biological hypotheses
Experience in creating web-based visualization tools
Knowledge and previous experience with cloud-based computing such as Amazon Web Service (AWS)
Experience working with SQL-based relational databases and non-relational databases
