About the Role

About this role: The Oncology Translational Research (OTR) Department at the Novartis Biomedical Research in Cambridge, MA is a laboratory-based research group, which supports the development of novel therapeutics in the NIBR Oncology Disease Area. Our group in Oncology Pathology Biomarkers (OPB) uses primarily tissue-based, cell-based, qPCR, and soluble protein assays to understand target epidemiology and biology, mechanisms of action, and response/resistance biomarkers, ranging from early stages of target identification through late-stage clinical trials.

We are seeking a motivated Senior Scientist who will work within a sub-team of OPB, primarily passionate about tissue-based biomarker assay development (e.g., IHC, ISH, and FIHC) for eventual transfer to external contract research organizations as part of clinical trials or for exploratory research on preclinical and consented clinical and commercial samples. The Senior Scientist will help support programs across a wide range of therapeutic modalities and disease indications within Oncology and have opportunities to develop additional skills in image analysis and participate in technical development within OPB.

Key responsibilities:

  • Complete experiments and procedures requiring specific scientific or technical knowledge and laboratory techniques, such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and in situ hybridization.

  • Implement experimental steps and existing lab techniques according to established laboratory protocols with some input from senior lab members/manager.

  • Develop multiplex IHC, FIHC and ISH using automations.

  • Provide basic data analysis: report experimental hypothesis, experimental details, summation of raw data, graphs and statistical analysis.

  • Conduct image analysis of whole slide images using established platforms.

  • Deliver high‐quality data to impact drug discovery and projects in clinical development.

  • Ability to independently design and interpret experiments and plan next steps with support from matrixed collaborators

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and serving as a point-of-contact for the team
