As a Senior Scientist for the Immuno-Oncology team, you will report to the Senior Director and work closely with other scientists in preclinical research and development, leading a target discovery project from the ground up. You will identify novel support other ongoing programs and your work will be central to Alectors strategic goals. As an early hire, youll be influential in championing and developing Alectors culture.

  • Identifying and leading a high-priority target discovery project, from high-level design and planning to running experiments, assessing results and identifying the critical path forward to identify drug lead candidates
  • Participating actively in decision-making process on cross-functional project teams by providing scientific input and mentoring
  • Generating and testing new hypotheses for immuno-oncology targets and strategy
  • Advancing group capabilities and know-how by identifying and implementing novel technologies
  • Managing and directing academic collaborators and contract research organizations to ensure successful joint efforts
  • Analyzing current scientific literature to help identify new targets, new strategies for existing targets, or new technical approaches
  • Potentially leading research associates or junior scientists

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • PhD with at least 6 years of postdoctoral or equivalent industry experience, with industry experience preferred (willing to consider more experience for the right candidate)
  • Prior experience in an immuno-oncology drug discovery or translational setting
  • Prior project leadership experience on a drug development team
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the field of immuno-oncology, innate immunity, and signaling pathways
  • Extensive knowledge in the design, validation and execution of in vitro cell based screening assays and/or in vivo tumor models
  • Ability to contribute to strategic direction of immuno-oncology therapeutic area
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage functional responsibilities on therapeutic project teams
  • Excellent written and oral interpersonal skills

The Senior Associate Scientist will be an integral member of a dynamic research team, collaborating with research scientists at multiple Amgen sites, and working closely with groups in other functional areas including Therapeutic Discovery, and Medical Sciences. Responsibilities: Make major scientific laboratory-based contributions to the research goals of the department. Present results in both internal and external forums, and participate in the writing of manuscripts for publication. Planning and performing laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and communicating results. Basic Qualifications: Master's degree and 3 years Scientific experience. OR Bachelor's degree and 5 years Scientific experience. Preferred Qualifications Doctorate with research experience in immunology, cancer biology, biochemistry, or related field. Post-graduate training in Immunology or Immuno-oncology. Technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: Strong knowledge of macrophage/DC or T cell biology. Molecular biology, biochemistry, in vivo mouse models of cancer or inflammation, cellular immunology techniques, bioinformatics analysis of large gene expression datasets, CRISPR experiment design. Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in research, exemplified by a strong publication record and/or significant contributions to a therapeutic development program. Knowledgeable, highly motivated, creative, and collaborative. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate and troubleshoot to solve problems.
