Highly skilled and motivated synthetic organic medicinal chemist. Experienced in the design and execution of multi-step organic synthesis as well as the purification, analysis and characterization of small molecule target compounds. Proficient at SAR analysis and can accurately interpret biological data and, based on that analysis, design new target compounds to optimize target activity and ADME and PK properties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, synthesis, purification and characterization of small molecule lead compounds
Troubleshoot and optimize synthetic routes
Effective Interpretation of biological data; biochemical, cellular, ADME, PK, PD and efficacy data, and SAR analysis
Drives lead optimization efforts from lead to drug candidate selection
Provide effective project leadership to chemistry team members
Participation in group, project team and departmental research meetings
Proper maintenance of laboratory notebooks in accordance with company policies and practices
Compliance with safe laboratory practices and EH&S guidelines
Contributes to the writing of technical documents, patents, scientific manuscripts, etc.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Bachelor's degree in related discipline and a minimum of fifteen years of related experience; or
Master's degree in related discipline and a minimum of thirteen years of related experience; or
PhD degree in related discipline and a minimum of three years of related experience; or
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working with colleagues in biology and in vitro ADME groups, and proficient at analyzing the results of biological and ADME data including SAR analysis
Experience managing chemistry projects and teams; mentoring junior chemists
Experience designing and executing multi-step synthesis pathways
Experience using chromatographic purification techniques (flash chromatography, preparative HPLC, etc.)
Experience using modern analytical techniques (NMR, LC-MS, etc.)
Strong organic and medicinal chemistry bench skills
Solid knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry reaction mechanisms and reactivity
Strong data interpretation skills
Demonstrates independence in the laboratory; independently creates hypotheses and designs compounds accordingly
Efficient use of scientific literature and chemical/scientific databases
Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and works well within a team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven track record of advancing medical chemistry projects and the delivery of high quality drug candidates as evidenced by publications and/or patents
Has an in-depth knowledge of the functional area
Environment: primarily working in laboratories or in office
Exposures encountered, such as hazardous materials, extreme cold.
