Internal Job Description
Sr. Scientist Template Production (RED, Bioproduction)
Roche Sequencing Solutions (RSS) is a fast moving, highly technical team of people with the ambitious goal of disrupting Next Generation DNA Sequencing. Our technology fuses active biological and solid-state elements to bring single molecule-based sequence detection to scale. Developing this unique platform requires expertise across a range of fields: Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Theory, Biophysics, Biology, Chemistry, Protein Engineering, Digital and Analog Circuit Design, and Electrochemistry, just to name a few.
We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate and team-oriented individual with laboratory experience in NGS library preparation and various sample preparation techniques. This individual will be working as part of our bioproduction team in research and early development (RED) supporting DNA template production for use on our nanopore sequencing technology. The individual must be highly detail oriented and meticulous. Experience in sample preparation, DNA purification, and NGS library preparation methods is required.
This individual will work as part of a small, but integral team, as well as collaborate cross-functional teams. They will report to the template production manager and work very closely with junior level scientists by providing technical oversight and mentoring. Individual will participate in aspects of project planning, and will work closely with manager to design experiments, identify opportunities for process improvements, and plan, design and execute studies to improve workflows. Utilizes DOE where appropriate, and is familiar with basic data analysis techniques. Maintains exceptional data records, and regularly deliver presentations internally of project data.
Designs, plans and conducts assigned research and/or development-related experiments/studies utilizing established and innovative procedures.
DNA template construction, QC and method validation.
Troubleshoots and resolves difficult problems in creative ways by taking a new perspective on existing solutions, exploring and implementing new concepts and methodologies.
Accurately and consistently records experimental methods, materials and results in electronic laboratory notebooks.
DNA extraction and purification methods
Characterizing DNA using UV/VIS spectroscopy, fluorescent based assays, and gel electrophoresis.
SPRI -Magnetic bead-based DNA purification
Preparation of genomic DNA libraries as well as novel, synthetically constructed DNA templates.
Nanopore platform sequencing and data analysis
Maintaining production protocols, databases and batch records
Analyzes data, evaluates results, forms conclusions and implements/documents process improvements. Integrates previous and current results to determine next experimental steps. Presents findings at group or departmental meetings.
Works according to Roche's commitment to quality and adheres to Roche's core business principles.
Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology or related discipline is preferred. M.S. or B.S with equivalent industrial experience.
Deep understanding of analytical approaches and tools for genomic data analysis plus familiarity with genome databases. Candidates with proven expertise in the analysis of NGS data
Demonstrated experience with DNA purification and analytical methods
Experience with enzymatic reactions and process development.
