Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is actively seeking a highly qualified Senior Scientist / Engineer for the development of advanced algorithms for the intelligence and defense communities. Application areas include geolocation, navigation, image analysis, machine learning, and point cloud analysis. The scientist / engineer will join a multi-disciplined collaborative team of engineers and scientists. This position is located in the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Directorate of the ARA Southeast Division in Raleigh, NC.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have an active interest in applying math/statistics/physics/engineering concepts to solve multi-disciplinary problems. The candidate should be familiar with improving/optimizing/tuning existing algorithms as well as development of new algorithms from scratch. This will include software design, software development, and debugging / issue resolution. The candidate should demonstrate a hands-on approach to problem solving and must be willing to actively participate in evaluation of algorithm and system performance. Other responsibilities include assisting in preparation of oral and written reports, supporting R&D business acquisition and customer briefings, present results of research at scientific / engineering conferences and publish in technical journals.

Required Senior Scientist / Engineer

Qualifications:
  • PhD in Mathematics / Physics / Engineering / Computer Science along with 3-5 years' experience.

  • Strong foundation in software development.

  • Firm understanding of 3D geometry and geospatial concepts.

  • Hands-on approach to problem solving.

  • Team player with excellent presentation and written / oral communication skills.

  • US Citizenship (Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information).

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in prototyping and implementing algorithms in MATLAB and/or Python.

  • Experience in implementing computationally-intensive algorithms.

  • Background in image analysis and signal processing.

  • Background in statistics.

  • Background in analysis of point clouds from LiDAR and other sources.

  • Background in machine learning.

  • Background in cloud-based computing.

  • Experience working on intelligence and DoD programs.

  • Experience in parallel and distributed computing.

  • Prior / existing security clearance.

As a Data Scientist, you will collaborate with people across PRA to transform pharmaceutical research and the healthcare industry through advanced analytics. What do you need to have? * 3+ years' experience solving real data problems to drive customer satisfaction. * The ability to run turn-key analytics from data acquisition, data prep, analysis, and reporting of results. * BS and/or MS degree in a quantitative discipline: Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, etc. preferred * To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status. Preferred Qualifications: * Advanced skills in a scripting language such as Python, R, or Scala.
