Develop new and revised sun care formulations to meet marketing plans and regulatory requirements. Take developed and reformulated products from bench to launch by initiating efficacy and safety testing and working with the pilot scale-up and regulated stability teams.


  • Manages multiple projects/timelines and develop contingency options

  • Prepare and present effective presentations on project development

  • Document and interpret data to effectively advance projects

  • Effectively manage project interface with Marketing and other external groups

  • Contribute continuous improvement ideas in the areas of innovation, best practices, and quality

  • Represent company at technical or industry functions

  • Review competitive technical strategies and provide insight into benchmarking initiatives

  • Work with Consumer Insights group to proactively integrate consumer understanding into product development


  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum of 6 years skin care / emulsion experience


  • M.S. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a minimum 4 years skin care / emulsion experience or Ph.D. in Chemistry with a minimum of 2 years skin care / emulsion experience, ideally within a consumer products environment

  • Strong knowledge of the formulation of sun care/cosmetic products, (O/W emulsions, W/O emulsions, dispersions) including lotions, sprays, gels, sticks.

  • Thorough understanding of developing and launching an OTC type product; familiarity with sunscreen regulatory elements is a plus

  • Experience working in a GMP facility

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and complete projects on time.Experience formulating global sun care and cosmetic products

  • Practical background in statistical evaluations

  • Strong knowledge of raw material functions and properties used in the cosmetic industry

  • Experience in rheology

  • Understanding of and ability to implement aerosol technologies for skin care formulations

  • Excellent verbal / written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interface with internal and external contacts at all levels.

  • Excellent organizational, prioritizing and follow up skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks / projects simultaneously.

  • Detailed knowledge of all lab equipment and procedures ability to modify procedures when necessary.

  • Experienced with microscopes, viscometers, pH meters, and lab scale mixers

  • Experience screening emulsions under accelerated stability conditions

  • Experience using solar simulators and Labspheres to screen sunscreen prototypes

  • Ability to work well under pressure, with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to think and act independently and make sound decisions.

  • Knowledge of patent art, and the ability to read, understand and explain patents is a plus.

  • Ability to travel. The position may require travel to contract manufacturing sites, vendors, industry meetings, and external seminars.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not limited to: * Preparing and/or analyzing samples based on published methods and Standard Operating Procedures. * Following documented procedures. * Preparing standards and reagents as applicable. * Documenting all lab activities in applicable logbooks and databases (e.g. sample prep, sample analysis, standard and reagent prep, instrument maintenance, etc.). * Entering data into LIMS or other databases) as applicable. * Maintaining equipment and instrumentation. * Responsible for keeping applicable workspaces clean and safe. * Disposing of samples, by-products, and waste products per required procedures. * Reviewing data from other analysts, if applicable. * Attending required company and department meetings. * Completing required training activities within required timeframes. * Foster cooperation and teamwork among staff. * Following policies, protocols, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). * Other duties as assigned.
