Weare currently seeking an extraordinary synthetic organic / Process chemist tojoin the Discovery Process Research (DPR) group at our San Diego, CA site as aSenior Scientist.

Youwill be responsible for conducting research directed to the development ofcreative solutions to complex chemistry problems across a portfolio of projectsin the discovery space, from lead identification through selection ofdevelopment candidates. Our goal is to facilitate medicinal chemistry researchby finding solutions to synthetic bottlenecks, enabling access to novelchemical space and translating chemistry innovations to the development ofefficient routes for the synthesis of small molecule drug candidates advancinginto development.

Yourwork will require state of the art synthetic organic chemistry skills andanalytical chemistry techniques, leveraging on your previous experience inareas such as asymmetric synthesis, reaction safety, flow chemistry, reactionoptimization, synthetic route design, product isolation, and scale-up. You willbe expected to remain conversant with the modern chemical literature and tomaintain a strong laboratory presence. Discovery and Development are key to the role. As such, you have strong oraland written communication skills and the ability to grow in a team and goaldriven environment.

As aSenior Scientist within Janssen you will work with limited supervision and highlevels of autonomy. You will innovate to manage complex research plans anddeliver business results. A Senior Scientist may be asked to supervise otherscientists to accomplish tasks and project objectives.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Synthetic, Organic orMedicinal Chemistry is required.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experienceas an industrial process chemist is required.

  • Experience in methodologydevelopment, catalysis, total synthesis or similar is required.

  • Consistent track record ofscientific excellence and successful research in Organic Chemistrysupported by peer-reviewed publications is required.

  • High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) experience is preferred.

  • Ability to effectively collaboratein a highly integrated environment is required.

  • Strong problem-solving skills fordeveloping creative, innovative solutions, and meeting project objectivesare required.

  • Productivity and efficiencyworking in the lab is required.

  • Strong written and oralcommunication skills is required.

  • Ability to train and supervise juniorscientific personnel is preferred.

  • This position is located in SanDiego, CA, and may require up to 10% travel.
