Senior Scientist, Chromatographic Separations, Early Oncology

Join us at AstraZeneca as a Senior Scientist in our Early Oncology discovery chemistry team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a core analytical team that supports Oncology projects from target identification through lead optimization and pre-clinical delivery of candidate drugs.

You will be responsible for the reliable isolation of high purity chiral and achiral lead-like compounds with high recovery and quick turnaround times. This is a hands-on laboratory position based in Waltham, MA, with a planned relocation to Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA in 2026.

Accountabilities:

As a Senior Scientist, you will be tasked with analytical method development and purifications for chiral and achiral chromatographic separations using Reverse Phase and SFC. You will also handle post-purification dry down, QC, and registration. Additionally, you will support instrumentation, communicate cool science highlights, and tackle novel problems with innovative solutions across multiple instruments, softwares, projects, and workflows.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • PhD in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, biochemistry, or equivalent with industry experience, or M.S. with 4+ years relevant industry experience, or bachelor's degree with 5+ years relevant industry experience.

  • Proven experience with chiral and achiral separations of small molecules (~300-1500 MW) using HPLC-UV/MS and SFC-UV/MS at analytical and semi-prep or preparative scale.

  • Expertise in analytical method development, validation, and problem solving.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong time management skills, forward planning, and delivery focus.

  • Steady performance demonstrating values and behaviors in interpersonal interactions.

  • Experience with Waters and Agilent hardware, and MassLynx and ChemStation software.
