The R&D Discovery and Technology Futures group at IDEXX Laboratories is looking for an innovative scientist to be at the forefront of biomarker discovery for building the next generation of IDEXX products. In this fast paced and highly visible role, you will join a group of talented, technically focused individuals working together to innovate solutions to complex challenges. The successful candidate will be a creative, self-motivated, independent thinker who will drive in vitro disease mimicry efforts and molecular assay development in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary and collaborative setting.

In this role, you will develop and implement in vitro models of veterinary disease for biomarker discovery, clinical validation, and mechanistic studies. You will build analytical measurement systems that demonstrate evidence of phenotypic mimicry and quantify gene and protein expression changes in response to stimuli. You will solve complex problems pertaining to disease etiology by leveraging advanced technical tools, including but not limited to: flow cytometry, quantitative fluorescence microscopy, RNAi, cell line development, organ-on-chip culture, quantitative PCR, microarray design, enzymatic assays, ELISA etc. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with cross-functional discovery teams, program stakeholders and leadership to align on priorities and execute technical objectives on tight timelines. You will have the opportunity to influence direction and expand infrastructure of a rapidly growing and innovative team at IDEXX.

What you can expect:

  • Designs prototype assays with experimental reagents, collects data, carries out analysis and reaches conclusions.

  • Mentors colleagues, helps implement new innovations to solve complex problems.

  • Sets timelines and technical readiness for deliverables in accordance with organizational goals.

  • Utilizes genetic engineering for creation and manipulation of custom cell lines for veterinary disease modeling.

  • Performs PCR, SDS-PAGE, flow cytometry, microscopy, and related disciplines for phenotypic characterization.

  • Innovates and develops novel platforms and cellular architectures for reconstructing disease states in vitro (infectious and non-infectious).

  • Generates clear, concise presentations and reports findings across the organization.

  • Documents experiments and maintains accurate electronic records.

  • Collaborates and communicates with colleagues in related areas to provide work support, exchange information and ensure efficient processes.

  • Influences and achieves buy-in from program stakeholders and leadership teams.

  • Maintains knowledge of products and procedures, developments in the field and industry.

  • May participate in conferences, webinars and seminars to continue to develop knowledgebase.

What you need to succeed:

  • PhD in Cell/Molecular Biology, with 1-3 years' post-graduate experience required, industry experience preferred.

  • Proven track-record of advanced mammalian cell culture techniques or organ-on-chip modeling is a must.

  • Experience with design and execution of flow cytometry experiments is highly preferred.

  • Evidence of strategic project design (inception through completion) of multiple projects should be demonstrated.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively towards a unifying set of goals.

  • Strong analytical and data visualization skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Organizational skills and ability to plan work are a must.

  • Takes initiative and is accountable; focuses on the task at hand; detail oriented.

  • Adaptable to priorities and able to quickly pivot between multiple projects; works well under pressure.

  • A positive attitude and willingness to mentor and support team members.
