Summary of the Group

Dynamic Omics is part of the Centre for Genomics Research (CGR) and Discovery Sciences within AstraZeneca, and works across all therapeutic areas (Oncology, Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM), Respiratory and Immunology (R&I), Vaccines and Immunotherapies (V&I) and Neurosciences). You will be responsible for automating novel proteomic methods and procedures and improving the efficiency and throughput of our state-of-the art proteomics capabilities. The Dynamic Omics team delivers key data to projects across all phases of drug discovery and development, and we work with all modalities from small molecules to biologics. As a member of the Dynamic Omics and CGR groups, you will be actively involved in analyzing preclinical and clinical samples by implanting automated high-throughput proteomics technologies.

We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic scientist, able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with project teams across scientific disciplines and therapeutic areas to contribute to iterative experimental design and mechanistic hypotheses generation through the interpretation of complex proteomics data. Applicants should possess strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment, regularly presenting internal updates and contributing to publication strategy in high level peer-reviewed journals and international conferences.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

This role will primarily support proteomic collaborations across both Early Oncology and Biopharmaceuticals R&D. Key responsibilities will be operation and maintenance of automation platforms and liquid handling systems to ensure proteomics data is accurately acquired and analyzed. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work and grow in a fast-paced environment under the supervision of senior staff members.

  • Oversees laboratory automation, robot programming and best practices of sample preparation and data acquisition.

  • Lead the development and optimization of new automated mass spectrometry technologies towards a fully automated experimental workflow.

  • Lead collaborations and communicate effectively with internal and external experts from a variety of technical backgrounds.

  • Demonstrate creative and independent scientific thinking to solve complex technical and scientific problems.

  • Operate effectively in a multidisciplinary matrix research environment, providing leadership and insight.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Education: PhD in engineering, analytical chemistry, or proteomics or relevant field.

Experience:

PhD with 1+ years of relevant postdoc or industry experience.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with proteomics workflows with an emphasis on developing automated sample preparation procedures.

  • Hands-on experience with robotic liquid handling and other automation systems with demonstrated proficiency in script/method writing, preferably with Hamilton or Agilent platforms.

  • Training users and transferring automation methods to project teams.

  • Proven track record of leading automation projects in highly collaborative and cross-functional research environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and advance automation projects by designing methods, analyzing and interpreting data, and summarizing results for presentations, reports, and publications.

  • Experience with common programming languages such as Python, use of APIs to access instruments programmatically and establish workflows between instruments.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects that result in high-quality scientific publications.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with sample preparation for low-input proteomics, high-throughput proteomics by DIA, or post-translation modifications analysis.

  • Experience working in a matrix organization is a plus.
