We have a senior scientist position in the Applied Measurement Science (AMS) team of the North American Beauty and Personal Care Technology Centre in Trumbull, Connecticut. The individual will provide technical, chemical and processing insight and support for cross category (Skin Care/Skin Cleansing/Hair/Deo) on raw material and finished product specifications, advertising claims, competitor product and prototype evaluation, through the design and utilization of physical characterization methods. The individual must have the ability to handle normal chemical laboratory activities. They must have good communication skills, and the interpersonal skills to work within a fast-paced team environment that requires the ability to handle multiple demands.

Who You Are & What You'll Do

As part of the AMS team, we work with the formulation, processing, packaging, claims and specification teams from cross categories (Skin Care/Skin Cleansing/Hair/Deo) to develop and manufacturer new and innovative Beauty and Personal Care products. The individual will provide technical, formulation and processing science insight and support for the technical requests from the business, through the design and utilization of physical characterization methods

This position will require you to:

Conduct rheological, thermal and tribological analyses to support the cross-category measurement requests. When required also undertake chemical characterization of the sample using chromatographic and mass spectral analysis to link the physical attributes of the sample to its chemical composition

Provide technical and microstructure inferences to support cross category supply chain, formulation, processing and claims queries.

Develop and transfer methods to Quality Assurance in support of Manufacturing needs.

Independently lead problem solving projects

Present measurement findings at team meetings and project/technical reviews to both technical and non-technical audiences, as well as senior managers.

You need to apply an innovative approach to solve critical formulation and production problems that require rapid and informative solutions

What You'll Need To Succeed

  • A M.S. degree with 5 years' experience or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry or related afields, as well as a demonstrated ability in the development of thermal and rheological methods is preferred

  • Working knowledge of chemistry with in-depth understanding of colloids, surfactant and fluid mechanics, thermal and chemical analysis (mainly chromatography and mass spectrometry) is required.

  • Ability to quickly learn analytical instrumentation and data analysis, and recognize significance of unusual test results and initiates appropriate action

  • Ability to develop and optimize new or current tribology, interfacial and adsorption measurement methods

  • Problem solving expertise for production queries which require rapid and informative solutions

  • Ability to work within a fast-paced team environment and handle multiple demands

  • Supervises others on routine standardized procedures and techniques, and share best practice and technical knowledge

  • Good Verbal/written Communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with peers, key stakeholders and senior leaders.

  • Ability to work independently with Cross-functional team members

  • A "Can do" attitude that does whatever it takes to get the job with a passion for skin care products as a plus.
