We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist with validated expertise in biologics drug discovery to be a member of the Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering group at Alector. You will closely work with dynamic and motivated teams to drive Alector's early discovery efforts for unmet medical needs in neurodegeneration and cancer. Expertise in phage display, library design, construction and screening is preferred. Hands-on experience and knowledge in b-cell cloning, hybridoma sequencing, protein expression, purification and/or characterization would be valuable. You should have a proven track record in demonstrating creativity, taking initiative and ability in influencing at all levels, both up and across. You will lead and participate in project teams, chip in pipeline strategy and help build creative approaches to discover and optimize antibody-based bio-therapeutics development. You should be able to thrive in a highly dynamic and encouraging yet independently thinking culture. You are expected to be pragmatic with complex science and procedures. You will need to be highly efficient in collaborating with internal team members and external partners.
During the first year, your goals will include:
Therapeutic antibody lead selection by phage display panning of human antibody libraries
Affinity maturation / optimization of antibody and fusion protein lead molecules
Implementation / development of state of the art antibody engineering technologies to enable first-in-class and best-in class bio-therapeutic molecules
Molecular cloning, PCR, mutagenesis, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, FACS
Protein / antibody expression in bacteria and mammalian cells

It would be a plus if you have hands-on experience in the following areas:
Immunized phage or yeast library generation
Yeast display and/or other display methods
Single B-cell cloning
Bi- and multi-specific antibody engineering
Ability to work independently as well as in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Ability to multi-task and change priorities based on business needs
Ability to adopt a culture of continuous learning and improvement and refining technical skills
Take a dedicated role in growth and scientific development
Design complex experiments and provide in-depth analysis and interpretations of diverse experimental results
Demonstrate in-depth, independent, scientifically-directed, and innovative thinking
PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Immunology, Protein Engineering or a related field with 5+ years of related industry or 8+ years of academic working experience
A track record of scientific accomplishments as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, patents or pipeline contributions
Excellent oral and written communication skills
