The Position

We are seeking a Senior Scientific Researcher in the Department of Molecular Biology to support the development of innovative cellular therapeutics. She/he will be responsible for the design, execution, and validation of approaches that will contribute to both pre-clinical and clinical efforts, with a focus on genome modification of primary immune cell types. Strongest candidates will have expertise spanning immunology and molecular biology, including a deep understanding of genome engineering, gene expression, in vitro growth and manipulation of primary cells (T cells, HSCs), molecular cloning (PCR, expression vector design and manipulation), and molecular biology/next-generation sequencing analysis software.

Who You Are

A self-motivated, detail-oriented candidate with a PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Cancer Biology, or a related discipline. The candidate is expected to work effectively in both independent and team-focused research environments.

Qualified candidates will have a skill set demonstrating successful design and application of nucleic acid-based technologies and genome editing in cellular models. Meticulous record keeping and organizational skills are critical, as is the ability to communicate effectively across multi-functional groups at Genentech, Inc. and with our world-wide collaborators.

VIEW JOBS 3/5/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-03T00:00 We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Scientific Researcher in the Department of Molecular Biology to support the production and optimization of genetically-modified cellular models. This position will be within the newly-established Advanced Cell Engineering Hub, wherein she/he will facilitate the design, execution, and validation of cell line engineering projects initiated by researchers across Genentech -- with the ultimate goal of generating more effective in vitro/ex vivo disease models and novel contexts for functional genomic screening. The candidate is expected to work creatively and independently within an extremely dynamic, collaborative research environment. Ability to manage multiple on-going efforts at different stages and across disciplines will be critical. A self-motivated candidate with a PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cancer Biology, or a related discipline is required. Qualified candidates will have a skillset demonstrating successful, documented application of molecular genetics/genome engineering either in cell- based systems or model organisms. Preferred expertise includes some or all of the following: DNA nucleases, 2D and 3D cell culture, RNA interference (siRNA/shRNA), reporter gene assays, primary and/or stem cell models, organoid culture, molecular cloning, RNA/DNA/protein quantification, epigenetics, and viral vector development/use. Working knowledge of pooled vector-based screening, Next-Gen Sequencing (NGS), biostatistics, and/or basic bioinformatics is desirable. The successful candidate will be team-oriented, highly organized both operationally and in silico, and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. #LI-GREDES1 Genentech South San Francisco CA
