About the Department:

The mission of the Enterprise Applications (EA) department is to plan, implement and maintain integrated central and distributed information systems and associated databases that support the business needs of the University. These systems include the ERP Banner administrative applications (supporting student, finance, admissions, human resources, payroll, financial aid and procurement), Data marts/Business Intelligence (supporting strategic and operational end-user reporting requirements), decentralized systems and web applications (supporting budgeting, sponsored programs activity and other University applications) and support for Cloud-based platforms such as Salesforce/CRM and related add-ons, AWS, and Informatica data integration platforms. The environment is comprised of Oracle databases supporting Ellucian Banner and other administrative systems (e.g. Ellucian Workflow), In house systems (BSN app, PATS, PODS, Faculty Hiring system, eMOU, EIP, Travel Reimbursement, OSP Applications (PODS, PATS, Budget, etc.) using PL/SQL, Pro*C, Pro

  • Cobol, Oracle Forms, XML/JSON, ASP, JAVA, .NET Framework and Microstrategy running on Sun Solaris, Linux and Windows platforms. Support and administration is also provided for other third party systems such as AppWorx, fsa

Atlas, Xtender (imaging) solutions, Workflow, DynamicForms, TK20 and others running on Windows, Solaris/Linux Servers. University applications written in Cold Fusion are also supported along with Web Content Management Systems using WordPress, and Drupal. The Enterprise Applications Support & Development (EASD) team within ITS's EA group works closely with Mason's Provost's office and units under the Provost's office as well as other units within the university in support of academic and research mission of the institution by supporting and addressing various needs related to IT, data, analytics, reporting, security, and process reengineering/automation, application development & support. The division strives to provide quality, timely, and efficient services to and to collaborate with members of the Mason community in support of the University vision and strategic plan.

About the Position:

To perform analysis, design, development, testing, documentation and implementation of CRM software (Native Salesforce and Connected apps) and other related application systems within Salesforce and related platforms such as LWC, Heroku and their integration with other enterprise systems, as well as assisting in governance, project management activities and other assigned tasks. This work is done by collaborating with stakeholders and team members and functional and technical Salesforce Administrators to meet the project requirements and completing tasks and communicating project information to clients, project manager, or other project stakeholders while adhering to university policies and compliance with accessibility related standards (W3C, ADA, Section 508, etc.).

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing needs and evaluating/recommending solutions: Engage in need/business process analysis, design, development, documentation and support of Salesforce based CRM solutions and related systems;

  • Works closely with other senior IT staff and other team members to perform the needs analysis and assessment, mapping of business processes. Assists in the development and testing/QC of moderately complex applications, interfaces and services using Salesforce Lightning, Apex, Visual Force, Form Assembly, Lightning Web Components, HTML, HTML5, CSS, JSON, REST/SOAP, JS/JQuery, SOQL, SQL, XML, etc.;

  • When assigned, independently works on projects which require direct interaction with end users and clients with process mapping, requirements gathering, analysis and solution formulation and implementation (Full SDLC);

  • Assists other senior IT staff in efforts related to analyzing user needs and translates them into functional and technical specifications that will lead to the development and/or implementation of solutions;

  • Development and support of Informatica/Ethos based APIs for Salesforce integration with EDIS and other enterprise university systems;

  • Development and support of payment processing interface with different payment options (One-Time Payment, Partial Payment, Payment Plan) thru Touchnet uPay;

  • Performs the necessary tasks related to creating the associated documentation (Requirement Specs, Flow Diagrams, Design Documents, Project Charters, Test Plans, etc.) for related projects using appropriate tools and technologies;

  • Keeps abreast of new developments, concepts and techniques related to the core CRM platform and related systems;

  • Participates on cross-functional project teams as assigned;

  • Performs assigned tasks related to support and integration of CRM software applications through API's and web services;

  • Meets assigned or agreed upon deadlines and provide regular status reports on work assignments;

  • Develops proper technical and user documentation for each system in a consistent and structured manner;

  • Assists in implementation, administration and support of acquired IT resources (COTS);

  • Assists in ensuring quality control through defined procedures that include hands-on testing and debugging;

  • Performs validations on accessibility and other standards (W3C, ADA, and Section 508);

  • Performs assigned tasks to track, report and analyze usage and error statistics associated with supported sites and applications;

  • Follows all appropriate data security safeguards and access restriction;

  • Provides technical training and knowledge transfer;

  • Lead(s)/assist(s) other staff in projects and provide training and support as needed;

  • Serves as technical lead for Salesforce development efforts and Lead(s)/assist(s) other staff in projects and provide training and support as needed; and

  • Develop services, libraries and technical documentation and direction to be used by other team members and assists in their implementation and adoption.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;

  • Salesforce Developer and/or Administrator training certificate(s) or equivalent;

  • Significant demonstrated experience as a Salesforce developer and/or administrator in projects related to CRM application development and integration;

  • Hands on experience with Lightning, Apex, Visualforce, JQuery, CSS, XML, JSON, ASP.Net, Javascript, XML, CSS, JQuery;

  • Understanding/experience with Salesforce connected app architecture and best practices;

  • Exposure to one or more of the following tools/technologies: SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, SOQL;

  • Experience/exposure in creating and consuming REST/SOAP/JSON web services;

  • Knowledge of and skill in Salesforce.com, Lightning, Visualforce, Apex, SOQL, Multi-tier architectures;

  • In-depth knowledge of web design/development technologies, techniques and best practices as well as security standards and techniques to improve stability and security of new and existing systems;

  • Skilled in developing web applications and web services using Salesforce (native and connected app), Apex, Lightening Web components, SOQL, Visualforce or similar experience using other web development technologies such as Java, SOAP, REST, and XML;

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Web application development with tools and technologies such as XHTML, CSS, JQuery, JavaScript, PHP, LWC, JSON, RestAPIs;

  • Experience with user interface issues pertaining to navigation, usability and functionality;

  • Good understanding of issue troubleshooting and performance tuning within Salesforce and related platforms;

  • Optimizing and performance tuning skills for high utilization 24x7 access;

  • Skill in developing and directing software system testing procedures, programming, and documentation; and

  • Ability to translate complex functional/technical requirements, into technical specifications, using best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of encryption methods and procedures;

  • Experience within higher education industry;

  • Experience/Exposure to working with Higher Ed enterprise systems such as Banner, PeopleSoft, Workday, etc.;

  • Experience integrating third party products with existing infrastructure (e.g. Informatica, Ethos);

  • Proficiency with commonly used development tools, preferably MS Visual Code;

  • Ability and willingness to acquire new knowledge/skills and lead/train/assist other staff on projects as needed;

  • Knowledge of integrating third party products with existing infrastructure (i.e. Informatica, Ethos);

  • Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to assess priorities in meeting multiple deadlines;

  • Ability to manage multiple assigned tasks and responsibilities in high-pressure environment;

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in an effective and efficient manner;

  • Ability to deliver high quality projects on time;

  • Ability to design architecture, write high quality code, and execute effective unit tests;

  • Knowledge of integration with third party products with existing infrastructure (i.e. Informatica, Ethos);

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Proven ability to follow instructions and complete assigned project and other miscellaneous tasks;

  • Skill in analyzing software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints; and

  • Able to work equally well in self-managed and team-based Agile projects and the ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to other team members.
