Summary: A CRG client is searching for a Senior Manager of Sales & Use Tax, focusing on research and controversy. This role is responsible for researching moderate to complex sales & use tax topics, assisting with contract reviews and renewals, providing tax technical support to the company's operations, and assisting with various process improvements. Since this is a newly created role due to growth, you will have the opportunity to make it your own! The successful candidate will interpret and apply sales and use tax laws, regulations, rulings, and cases across multiple lines of business. Excellent communication and leadership skills are crucial, as this role will interact with all levels within the organization and with external customers.

Salary: $175,000 + 15% bonus

Location: Charlotte, NC (SW)

Schedule: Hybrid - 2 days remote, 3 days onsite

Responsibilities:

• Research, document, and resolve specific issues related to return positions, audit positions, and field inquiries.

• Perform heavy research and analysis on sales and use tax, including reading regulations and understanding contract forms to determine tax responsibilities.

• Build and maintain effective relationships within leadership and other areas of the business and work with external advisors on special projects as needed.

• Identify areas of risk and proactively research and recommend mitigating actions.

• Review and manage provisions for uncertain sales and use tax positions.

• Provide technical tax assistance to support ongoing business operations, including reviewing contracts with customers and vendors regarding indirect tax matters.

• Review contracts with large clients to determine the appropriate tax implications for various services offered.

• Ensure new business acquisitions are properly set up in the system.

• Promote awareness of sales and use tax to stakeholders, including providing training on relevant tax issues.

• Support all sectors, requiring a broad base of knowledge and the ability to convey tax-related information clearly to other departments.

• Assist in audit processes and assist with technical issues.

• Participate in the implementation of process improvements designed to mitigate tax risk.

Qualifications:

• B.S. in Accounting or Tax required; Graduate degree preferred.

• CPA, CMI, or JD required.

• 12+ years of multi-state sales tax experience with a public accounting firm or a large corporate tax department required; experience with the food service, grocery, or food & beverage industries preferred.

• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles required.

• 8+ years of management experience preferred.

• Experience mentoring team members to promote team development and growth preferred.

• Excellent analytical and technical skills with strong attention to detail required.

• Proficiency with SAP preferred.
