The Lerner lab is a leader at the intersection between the neuro and immune systems at epithelial surfaces. We use molecular and biochemical techniques as well as CRISPR to decipher the mechanisms that underlie sensation. Being a full-time member of our team will provide the opportunity to work in an environment on the cutting edge of biomedical research and to make impactful contributions in the field of cutaneous biology.
The employee will work independently to do experiments as jointly designed with other lab members and the PI. This position requires expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, tissue culture and mouse models.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently performs non-routine, highly specialized experimental procedures
Participates in the design and modification of research protocols
Develop research methodologies within the parameters of experimental protocols and research objectives
Composes and may present sections of research reports and manuscripts
Performs advanced data analysis using advanced statistical techniques
Responsible for the oversight and coordination of lab activities, including quality assurance
Responsible for the oversight and coordination of scheduling of all procedures
Responsible for troubleshooting problems and instructing others in highly specialized techniques
Perform fundamental laboratory skills (making solutions, bioassays, cell culture, flow cytometry, qPCR, and ELISA)
Execute primer design, molecular cloning, plasmid construction, qPCR
Application of CRISPR in vitro and in the generation of humanized mice
Perform protein analytical techniques (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Westerns, ELISA)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):
May supervise Laboratory assistants, technicians, and technologists.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):
Superb organizational, analytical, and communications skills
Experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell culture, flow cytometry, quantitative PCR, and other bioanalytical methods such as ELISA primer design, molecular cloning, plasmid construction, qPCR, protein analytical techniques (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Westerns, ELISA)
Works very independently under general direction of the Principal Investigator.
Ability to make independent and effective decisions
Ability to supervise/train staff effectively
M.S. in a relevant scientific field (biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology) preferred
