Overview: Silicon Carbide Sr. Research Scientist (Somerset, NJ)

Veeco's process equipment solutions enable the manufacture of semiconductors, advanced packaging and wireless chips, hard drives, MEMS, LEDs and microLEDs, advanced displays, power electronics, and compound semiconductors. Veeco serves our world-class global customer base through our dedicated sales and service organization strategically located throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. Veeco continues to grow and is looking for a silicon carbide (SiC) Sr. Research Scientist for our Somerset, NJ, location.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead process and application development using Veeco's silicon carbide CVD technologies.

  • Manage the development of epitaxial growth processes intersecting with customers' current and future requirements; own the design of experiment, execution of process runs, and data analysis.

  • Develop and maintain best known methods (BKMs) for process control, process development, and continuous improvement. Drive adoption of BKMs and new applications.

  • Engage with customers as the technical expert, help Marketing and Sales establish strong technical partnerships at key accounts.

  • Work with Sales and Marketing to define process specifications for Veeco tools to meet customer needs.

  • Develop new upgrades and hardware in coordination with Engineering for Veeco's unique SiC CVD technology.

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% both domestic and international for customer meetings, customer support and demos, and conference attendance.

Qualifications:

Master's degree and 6+ years of experience or a PhD and 3+ years of experience in Physics, Materials Science or a related field is required. Must have process development experience in and expertise with CVD thin film growth and vacuum thin film technology. Experience with SiC epitaxy is highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Self-directed with excellent interpersonal/communication skills.

  • Collaborative attitude, fast-learning, flexible, and willing to engage in new challenges.

  • Background in epitaxy of compound semiconductors, specifically SiC preferred. Operation of MOCVD or SiC systems in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.

  • Expertise with thin film characterization techniques such as XRD/XRR, AFM, CV electrical measurements, wafer bow and warp measurements, FTIR, defectivity (ex. SICA, Candela), four-point probe, stress measurements, SIMS, etc. is required.

  • Semiconductor device knowledge and module process, process integration experience in power devices and compound semiconductor devices is desirable.

The expected salary range for this position is $134,000 - $160,000 + bonus + benefits. When determining your pay, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
