The Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education at the Curry School of Education is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill a Research Scientist position to oversee and participate in data collection and analysis for large scale educational research studies. The incumbent revises observation and interview protocol, interprets and complies research findings for dissemination and publication, and provides supervision to graduate students carrying out data collection.

The primary job duty of the Senior Research Scientist is to conduct research within the Tai Lab in the Dept of Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education, at the Curry School of Education and Human Development. The Senior Research Scientist carries out research objectives that are outlined by the Principal Investigator based on grants/contracts. The Senior Research Scientist- supervises a small cohort of graduate and undergraduate students and trains those supervised on a number of research-related procedures and protocols. The Senior Research Scientist- develops guidelines and protocols for lab operations, assures quality and quality control within their lab, maintains the budget for lab, and promotes the general operational efficiency of the infrastructure.

Requirements:

Education: A Doctorate in Education or a related appropriate discipline is required.

Experience:

  • Three years of research experience is required which includes a basic knowledge of research techniques and other related research lab protocols that pertain to the area of expertise.

  • One year of experience with grants and contracts development and execution (preparing technical proposals and cost proposals) is required.

  • Experience in writing and presenting scientific research papers is required.

Skills:

  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.

  • Must have the ability to work effectively with staff, students, faculty, and other collaborators.

  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office, statistical and graphics software is required.

  • A record of inclusive conduct and evidence of multicultural skills in the workplace is preferred.

Effort: Occasional lifting and carrying of materials and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds.

The incumbent reports to PI's on existing funded research projects in the Center focused on developing, redefining, and evaluating evidence-based tools and programs that are used directly to improve teaching and strengthen learning, contributes to Center activities, develops and maintains programmatic line of scholarly inquiry, and oversees students and staff on data collection, management, and analysis and other grant related duties. Duties also include overseeing research data collection, management and analysis, production of publishable manuscripts on research and related professional chapters, books, and other forms of dissemination about all facets of effective interventions to improve teaching and learning, and work with Center faculty and other researchers to seek new funded research projects and develop and maintain connections to community organizations to seek new funded projects. Required Qualifications: * A Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field * Two years of post-doctoral or equivalent experience * Experience conducting research in preK-12 educational settings * Experience all aspects of data collection, management, analyses and archiving * Experience managing research staff and student assistants * Experience collecting and coding video data for school-based research * Demonstrated expertise in the fields of developmental psychology, the psychophysiology of stress as it relates to teaching and learning, and mindfulness-based interventions developed for teachers and/or students.
