JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Performance of Routine Histological Procedures
Performs all routine histological procedures including frozen sectioning, micron
intervals, thick sectioning, embedding, microtomy, special stains, and
consultation/processing internal and external histological requests submitted to the
Research Histology Core Lab in a proficient manner and competent manner in
accordance to the certifying qualifications established by the Board of Registry -
American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Higher Level Performance Competencies
Performs all Specialized Procedures utilized in the Histology Core Laboratory to
include, but not limited to the following:
Novel Project Development Competencies

protocols in preparation for clinical trials
iLabs System Operation and Management
Operates efficiently in the iLabs chargeback system
Assists requesters in proper submission of orders in the iLabs system.
Trains histology students assist with clinical trial requests, in developing and enforcing
laboratory policies, and other specialized processes as required by projects and protocols.
Communication and Leadership
Display excellent communication skills and friendly demeanor
Assists with oversight of lab operations
Ensures quality controls are implemented with all projects
Works independently while following standard operating procedures and policies and
uses good judgment, particularly those requiring supervisory skills.

Other duties as assigned
High school diploma or equivalent. With required education, five years of Histology Technician experience. With Associate's degree, three years experience in histopathology within the last ten years under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible) or an appropriately certified medical scientist. With successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program, one year of required experience. Histology Technician (HT) certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
