Position Title: Senior Research Chemist

Based in: Waterbury, CT

Reports To: Senior Research Projects Manager

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop and formulate new surface treatment products for the printed circuit board, molded interconnect, IC substrate and LED manufacturing industries

  • Identify, develop, and execute strategic research project activities as delegated to them by the Senior Research Projects Manager

  • Observe, analyze, and interpret the results from these activities and make recommendations for the direction and preferred route forward for research projects

  • Use data generated pro-actively for problem solving and/or value-added activities on projects

  • Assume a leading role to creatively drive research projects to a successful completion

  • Where appropriate, lead junior technical staff to aid with a projects timely completion

  • Write reports and presentations that clearly communicate technical findings to MacDermid staff, participating in departmental project meetings

  • Knowledge and hand-on experience on state of the art analytical methodology, which may include HPLC, GC, FT-IR, IC, UV absorption spectroscopy, ZYGO, SEM, EDXA preferred but not essential

  • Develop and validate practical alternative approaches for current product line offerings

  • Maintain a high level of professional expertise in the state of the art principles, theories and methodologies in technology areas of strategic importance to MacDermid

Requirements

  • PhD in chemistry or material science

  • Strong background in inorganic chemistry and/or electrochemistry particularly preferred

  • Extensive expertise in polymer and metals surface modification and characterization preferred

  • Knowledge and hand-on experience with analytical methodologies, which would particularly include, but is not limited to HPLC, GC, FT-IR, IC, UV absorption spectroscopy, ZYGO, SEM, EDXA preferred

  • Research and development project management skills with the ability to prioritize and work well with multiple project assignments

  • An ability to follow clearly defined objectives to solve difficult technical challenges within specific timescales. Coordinating cross-functional and outside resources to resolve problems as appropriate

  • Statistical experimental design expertise, preferred

  • Passion, high energy, self-motivation, and a focus on execution. Independent thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to succeed in an entrepreneurial culture, demonstrating significant initiative and effort

  • Good oral, presentation and written communication skills. An ability to communicate and interact successfully with a broad range of disciplines, whilst maintaining a strong professional image
