POSITION OBJECTIVES:

The Senior Research Associate/Research Investigator, Automation and Engineering

  • Cell Therapies position will play a key role in evaluating and developing pre-existing and custom automated solution for large-scale manufacturing of cell processes. Position objectives include automating, streamlining, and closing process components to address engineering challenges in cell therapy for multiple products within the Takeda portfolio.

Independently, or with minimal supervision, plans and executes experiments and documents results. Works with supervisor as appropriate to plan and execute higher level experiments, as needed. Responsible for preparing study protocols, reports, and technology transfer documentation. Presents study results at team or department meetings.

LINE FUNCTION SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

Cell Therapies:

  • Must have experience in principles and practices of cellular immunology and/or stem cell biology, including cell culture, cell isolation, and cell freezing.

  • Benefit to have experience in developing cell therapy or biological products, scale-up manufacturing processes

  • Benefit to have knowledge of and hands-on experience on automated Cell Therapy processing tools

  • Works with departmental and/or cross functional peers to execute on assignments, under limited supervision.

  • Contributes significantly to and drives forward multiple projects within functional area.

  • Reviews, interprets and communicates data internally (e.g., to supervisor, project teams) and prepares technical reports.

  • Proposes and implements resolutions to technical problems/issues

  • Assists with the development of project strategy and communicates data/decisions within department and cross functionally as necessary

  • Coordinates within departmental as well as cross functionally with peers on project work.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Education and Experience:

To Be Considered for the Senior Research Associate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 2+ years relevant industry experience

  • Master's degree or advanced degree in biology, engineering or related pharmaceutical science

  • Previous experience working in lab setting, benefit to have experience with cell therapy

To Be Considered for the Research Investigator:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 5+ years relevant industry experience

  • Master's degree or advanced degree in biology, engineering, or related pharmaceutical science; 3+ years relevant experience

  • Previous experience working in lab setting, benefit to have experience with cell therapy

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
  • Able to troubleshoot critical issues or problems and determine causes and possible solutions using appropriate information
  • Teamwork- Ability to work well in a highly cross-functional team environment

  • Communication- Able to expresses one's self clearly and concisely within team; timely and effectively communicates issues to supervisor; technical writing skills to support contributing to internal technical document.

  • Organization- Exercises good time management and prioritization skills, demonstrated to successfully multi-task

  • Highly proficient in use of applicable lab equipment and operations

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • May require approximately up to 20% travel

As a Research Investigator / Senior Research Associate High-throughput System (HTS) working on the Cell Therapy team, you will be empowered to assist in the development of cellular therapy products and work on cross-functional teams, and a typical day will include: POSITION OBJECTIVES: This Research Investigator / Senior Research Associate High-throughput System (HTS), Cell Therapies position will play an important role in supporting the daily operation of high throughput robot/liquid handling system within the Cell Therapy Engineering and Automation group to optimize cell therapy workflows including process, analytics and GMP. The primary focus of this position will be execution of planned experiments on the liquid handling system. With minimal supervision, plans and executes experiments on the liquid handling system. This individual assists in preparation of study results and present them at team or department meetings. This role works cross-functionally across process development, analytical development, automation and manufacturing teams to support Takeda's future programs. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES: * Works with departmental and/or cross functional peers to execute on assignments, under limited supervision * Owns responsibility for daily operation and maintenance of the high throughout system * Prepares complex protocols and assists in the development and implementation of automation protocols * Contributes significantly to project work which may include multiple projects within functional area. * Reviews, interprets and communicates data internally (e.g., to supervisor, project teams) and prepares technical reports. * Proposes and implements resolutions to technical problems/issues * Owns the responsibility for routine cell culture activities related to various programs * Supports local initiatives as directed by supervisor and participates in global CMC or functional initiatives as appropriate * Supports the definition and troubleshooting of methods on the high throughput robot * Coordinates within department as well as cross functionally with peers on project work * Assists in training of associates on robotic processing EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Education and Experience: To Be Considered for the Research Investigator Level: * Associates degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science and 7+ years relevant industry experience * Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 5+ years relevant industry experience * Master's degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 3+ years relevant industry experience * Previous experience working on an automated liquid handling system such as Hamilton, Tecan, HighRes or similar is required To Be Considered for the Senior Research Associate Level: * Associates degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science and 4+ years relevant industry experience * Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 2+ years relevant industry experience * Master's degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 0+ years relevant industry experience * Previous experience working on an automated liquid handling system such as Hamilton, Tecan, HighRes or similar is required Knowledge and Skills: * Experience in working with liquid handling robotics and automated systems is highly preferred * Analytical and Problem Solving Skills - Able to troubleshoot critical issues or problems and determine causes and possible solutions using appropriate information * Teamwork - Ability to work well in a highly cross-functional team environment * Communication - Able to expresses one's self clearly and concisely within team; documents issues and/or concerns concisely with colleagues; timely and effectively communicates issues to supervisor; technical writing skills to support contributing to internal technical documents * Organization - Exercises good time management and prioritization skills and is able to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously * Knowledge Sharing - Ability to capture organizational knowledge; improve solutions, processes, and deliverables through use of information; improve information capital by contributing experience, theories, deliverables, and models for others to use * Technical - Proficiency in use of applicable lab equipment and operations LINE FUNCTION SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS Cell Therapies: * Experience in CART, stem cell biology, immune-oncology is highly desirable * Experience in handling cells and understanding of aseptic techniques is required * Beneficial to have experience in principles and practices of cellular immunology and/or stem cell biology, including cell culture, cell transfection and transduction, development and execution of functional in vitro methods relevant for various types of immune cells and/or stem cells. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: * May require approximately 5% travel.
