Cell Line Development Skill Center Senior Research Associate

Job Responsibilities/Department Description:

The Cell Line Development Skill Center is seeking a motivated, full-time employee to join a high-performing, collaborative team focused on optimizing CHO cell line development platforms. Responsibilities will focus on improving processes, components, and methodologies used to generate recombinant CHO cell lines for production of protein biologics. Work will directly support development programs within Sanofi Biopharmaceutics R&D.

Position Overview/Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for vector construction, cell line generation and evaluation of recombinant CHO cell lines for preclinical development programs.

  • Contribute to process optimization and new technology evaluations, to support platform development activities which aim to reduce overall timelines while improving cell line productivity and product quality.

  • Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and superb organizational skills, having a proven ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and communicate transversally.

  • Flexibility, adjusting to a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment and willingness to expand and broaden skillset.

  • Manage work assignments, analyze and interpret test results, and conduct necessary troubleshooting with supervisor consultation as needed

  • Prepare reports, presentations, and data sets to effectively communicate results, progress and plans.

Basic Qualifications:

MS degree with 2-4 years (or BS degree with 6 years) experience in biologic sciences including hands-on experience in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture. Must be able to collaboratively work in a fast paced, team oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in suspension culture of CHO cell lines

  • Experience in molecular cloning, cell line development, and flow cytometry

The Sr. Associate Scientist is responsible for improving and scaling the developed algorithms using data-driven ML techniques and mathematical optimization in support of solutions to advanced and complex problems. These problems come from multiple divisions and include challenges as: * Developing demand prediction models to estimate the sales potential of new SKUs and build scheduling tools to support improvements in terms of cost, speed and customer service. * Develop and implement time-sensitive customer-based algorithms to support optimal customer-specific service. * Developing and deploying models that reduce total supply chain costs across the warehouse and transportation network through robotic automation, process control, and capacity optimization Primary Responsibilities: * Work closely with the scientists and key business partners to understand critical, complex, data-driven business and operations challenges, and then apply analytical methods to solve them resulting in a significant, positive impact on the Staples bottom-line. * Research, design, and implement data models and improve algorithms that analyze diverse sources of data to realize actionable results Demonstrate quality of models and results through presentations, pilots and reports Qualifications Qualifications Basic: * M.Sc plus 3-4 years of industry experience; or PhD in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics and Business Economics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or related field * Experience with mathematical modeling, and mathematical optimization techniques and technologies as well as advanced machine learning, data mining, statistical inference * Experience with querying databases in order to drive required analysis independently and swiftly * Excellent ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. * Keen attention to detail, and ability to dive deep Preferred Qualifications: * Experience developing large scale systems using parallel and distributed computing * Experience working with development tool sets such as Spark, Hadoop, Python, R, H2O, Docker, MYSQL, etc. * Experience using deterministic and non-deterministic mathematical programming, constraint satisfaction, advanced supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, natural language processing, robotics, markov decision process, and control theory * Experience with various areas of the supply chain such as customer order, inventory, warehouse, and transportation management * Experience with financial modelling Additional Requirements: * The ability to think big, manage ambiguity to move quickly and deliver results in an entrepreneurial environment * Fearless but thoughtful in their pursuit of results * Flexible and resourceful, and easily adaptable to changes in environment and prioritization * Possess excellent business judgment, and a practical, common-sense approach to getting things done Staples is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
