As a Senior Research Associate (SRA), you will be a key contributor for a variety of activities at Johnston Research Center. You will play a key role in supporting with primary responsibility of being apart of the Phenotyping/Field Trial functional team along with overall multicrop/multifunctional responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Will need to work/collaborate at a high level with Phenotyping functional lead and overall station functional leadership team.
Will need to work with Trait Scientists to understand experiments, mapping, phenotyping, protocols to bring information to overall team for successful execution.
Operator research equipment for planting and harvest.
Able to scout fields, focusing on agronomy pests and diseases.
Able to work with team members in driving regional scouting teams.
Be able to communicate effectively with all team members/stakeholders to understand both agronomic deadlines and other functional groups deadlines.
Work across Johnston team functions to support other activities at the site/along with support of other assigned research projects.
Assist with research center projects and research seed production activities, including seed preparation for planting, winter nursery deadlines, seed sampling, and other overall support for the research center to be successful. These are critical times for the success of the research program, so weekend work and overtime will be required during peak periods.
Contribute to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment.
Qualifications
Requirements- What You'll Bring:
Bachelor's degree in agriculture or scientific field required/master's degree in agriculture or scientific field preferred. Experience in Agronomy, Biology, Plant Breeding, or a scientific-related field preferred.
Technologically Savvy: Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs and capacity to learn new technologies and software. Handling of large volumes of data will be required.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people.
Results Driven: Self-motivated and ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem solving. Detail-oriented, strong time management and organizational skills.
Safety Oriented: Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices.
Physical Requirements
Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
Willingness to work in varying environmental and ergonomic conditions including field work, etc…
Willing and able to work a flexible schedule including overtime hours including weekend work required during seasonal peaks and shift work if needed/applicable.
Able to stay overnight during peak periods.
Driver's License, acceptable driving record, CMV (pulling pickup bumper hitch/gooseneck trailers)
