Under the direction of the Psychology Applied Research Center's Director and other senior team members, the successful candidate will serve as a senior research associate on the evaluation of The Los Angeles Mayor's Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD) Summer Night Lights (SNL). They will coordinate, manage, and provide oversight on multiple grant deliverables, their major steps and activities, as well as participate in the planning, design and execution of the evaluation to ensure quality and compliance with all expected products and outcomes, including provide technical assistance to community partners, as appropriate. The person filling this role will be expected to support other project staff and supervise/mentor junior staff on evaluation design and methodological issues as well as publish in peer-reviewed journals.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

1.Consult on the statewide evaluation design elements including develop and implement process and outcome evaluation and technical assistance support.

2.Provide centralized project support, communication and coordination of project to ensure accurate and timely completion of all contracted deliverables, major steps, and activities; this includes developing monitoring and action plans; including supervising junior staff.

3.Provide project staff with technical and methodological guidance (e.g, conducting linguistically and culturally responsive research with diverse communities, basic and advanced quantitative and qualitative analyses).

4.Participate in completion of project related activities and products such as, technical assistance to external stakeholders, development of monthly/annual/final reports to the City of LA, development of evaluation metrics, tools and instruments for both technical and non-technical audiences, and preparation of articles for publicationin in peer reviewed journals.

5.Represent LMU within BCLA Psychology Department community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required.

6.Perform other related duties.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically a Ph.D. Degree in a social science or related field, or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

  • Five years of experience in community based participatory research (CBPR), community-based research, quasi-experimental designs and mixed methods, and multi year project management.

  • Qualified to design research studies, develop data collection instruments, gather and analyze data, and interpret research findings for policymakers, program leaders, and practitioners.

  • Focus in community based research focused on individual and/or systems level improvements in mental health and wellbeing for communities of color.

  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to present research plans and findings are essential, as is the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, work well to deadlines, and understand and support client needs.

  • Ability to make a compelling case for ideas and/or approaches in writing and verbally.

Staff Term (Fixed Term)

Salary range

$72,500.00 - $103,314.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
