Senior Research Associate, Display Technologies

The Role: BigHat Biosciences is seeking a self-motivated Senior Research Associate to join the Display Technologies team. This individual will expand BigHat's ability to discover novel, next-generation antibodies, and to generate data to improve BigHat's machine learning models using display. This individual will expand BigHat's ability to discover novel, next-generation antibodies, and to generate data to improve BigHat's machine learning models using display.

Key Responsibilities

• Constructing phage display libraries to use for selections (PCR, molecular cloning, electroporations).

• Performing phage display selections using naive and affinity maturation libraries to discover novel next-generation antibodies.

• Expressing, purifying, and characterizing display-derived molecules using a suite of assays including ELISA, flow cytometry, BLI/SPR, CE-SDS, and others.

• Analyzing results from display selections to guide next steps and future experiments.

• Driving process improvements to make the display workflows more efficient, robust, and scalable.

• Collaborating with BigHat's Data Science and Machine Learning teams to facilitate data transfer and analysis to further bolster library design and machine learning model training.

• Keeping a detailed record of all experiments using BigHat's documentation tools, and clearly communicating results and challenges.

• Presenting experimental plans and results during regular meetings with manager and science teams.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

• B.S. with 2+/4+ or M.S. with 1+/3+ years of work experience.

• Extensive experience with phage display workflows.

• Experience with general molecular biology tools (PCR, Molecular Cloning, Mutagenesis) and developing/executing antibody binding assays.

• Efficient time management and ability to work on several projects simultaneously, in a dynamic start-up environment.

• Good record keeping skills using LIMS and electronic notebooks.

• Excited to work with diverse, cross functional teams to onboard new assays and disseminate results.

• Nice-to-haves include previous experience with other display modalities (ribosome, yeast, mammalian), NGS prep/analysis of display campaigns, and experience using automation for high-throughput assay development.
