This is a per diem position with a flexible work schedule which will accommodate a variable hour work-week.

The Senior Research Assistant works very independently with the Laboratory Manager and Investigators to conduct analysis of study samples collected from a longitudinal study focusing on severe asthma. He/She will be responsible for independently carrying out routine and non-routine analysis with moderate complexity and should be experienced with evaporating equipment, ELISA, and RIA immunoassay. This person will be responsible for implementing and maintaining quality assurance procedures in the laboratory environment. The applicant must be organized and capable of considerable independent work and maintenance of detailed, careful records and assisting with data management. This position plays an essential role in the successful completion of a long-standing NIH clinical research protocol being conducted in the Asthma Research Center.

Excellent communication (oral and written), phone, and computer skills are necessary.

Working under general supervision from the Laboratory Manager, provides support for clinical research studies.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the start-up and close-out of laboratory processes for clinical research studies evaluating asthma treatments and medications. Includes providing support for IRB submissions and invoicing.

  • Obtains appropriate certifications and training for necessary study specific protocols, general clinical research competencies, and ARC procedures.

  • May train peers and provide support to other sites in multicenter studies in which the ARC is involved as a center.

  • Independently manages the laboratory database of samples.

  • Collects and reviews study data in compliance with protocol and MOPs. Refers appropriate issues/questions to respective medical/managerial staff.

  • Adheres to the regulatory requirements of trials, including GCPs, protocol violation and adverse event reporting, and accurately and promptly updates study related logs.

  • Promptly resolves and responds to data queries, or generates and follows up on queries as appropriate.Analyses and presents data for reports as directed. Ensures integrity of data generated in the lab.

  • Implements and maintains quality assurance procedures and systems.

  • Plans, designs and performs statistical analyses.

  • In collaboration with PI, prepares and may present certain portions of presentations

  • Other study related procedures and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BS OR BA
  • 3-5 years of directly related, progressively more responsible, experience in a laboratory setting

Skills/abilities/competencies required:

  • Strong background in science.

  • High degree of computer literacy. Should have word processing capabilities; general computer experience in Excel and Access highly desirable. Should have experience working with MS Office tools.

  • Must possess the ability to work independently and display initiative to introduce innovations to research study.

  • Ability to attend to detail and be precise, exercising judgment in establishing priorities.

  • Must possess the analytical ability to resolve minor technical equipment problems and interpret acceptability of data results.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and set deadlines.

  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions.

  • Ability to write and communicate effectively.

  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, excellent interpersonal skills, and respect for subjects rights and individual needs
